We decided to stay in haltwhistle for one night as part of our week off work we have a holiday home in Cumbria but fancied breaking up the week and stay in haltwhistle. We were not disappointed. This place is a little Gem although we have passed through a few times and been for food we didn’t realise how charming it is. If you like history the town is steeped in it and is close to Hadrian’s wall. Lots of walking👍👍
Haltwhistle is the perfect base for visiting Hadrian's Wall. I strongly recommend Vindolanda - allow half a day for this amazing site and museum. There is a good range of pubs in Haltwhistle. The Black Bull stands out. Booking essential
Very nice village, being in the centre of England provides a very good start point for the visits to Hadrian's wall forts.Plus nice restaurant, indian cuisine, welcoming people interested in from where and whence the reasons for your visit, make you feel right at home. Co-op, newsagents and some other very good shops. Two good pubs.
I enjoyed the quiet and the fresh air, and the fact it's so easy to walk to part of Hadrian's Wall from there. The village itself is attractive and very hilly, so also a great place for anyone who enjoys sketching or photography. Visitors should definitely also visit the local shops - there are nice places to buy gifts and speciality food items.
It is the estimated centre of the Great Britain :) If walking the Hadrian´s wall path, you do not see many towns / villages with opended cafés, restaurants, bars, supermarkets. So for us, Haltwhistle was a very refreshing experience after days spent wholly in nature - so to say a cultural centre on the Hadrian´s path.
A brilliant base for walking or visiting museums in the area. Both coasts are easily visited by car. Local transport appears to be good. Hadrians wall and roman museums/ruins are so near. Local history is interesting. The local burn is full of more recent industrial history too.
I thought we would be miles from anywhere but we were in a good location to explore Hadrian's Wall and well place to head north to Alnwick etc. The food was good and a great choice for breakfast that negated the need for lunch but we had it anyway. Parking was either directly outside the hotel or at the end of the road so not the issue we expected. Great value for money.
Haltwhistle
This is a lovely family farm not too far from Haltwhistle and Hadrian's Wall. We had a big room with walk in shower. Breakfast was in the main house and it was really really good! The proprietor picked us up at the train and then showed us the walking paths to get back to town and up to Hadrian's wall. I would love to return to this amazing place.

We are regular visitors to Haltwhistle (wife was born there and went to school in this building when it was the local primary school ). We have stayed at several hotels or B&Bs. This was by far the best and we’ll be staying again. Rooms very tastefully refurbished and excellent, inventive breakfast choices

We had a fantastic time here. We just wanted to get away from work for a couple of nights and relax. We got exactly that. Haltwhistle is not far away - very easy to pop out in the car and get fish and chips. Hosts were lovely, and doing all they can to prevent the spread of Covid.
Breakfast was wonderful, was able to order to preference and it was all very good! We had dinner both nights in the hotel, such wonderful meals!! Loved the unique aspect of the property, all the different rooms and the history associated with the hotel!
