Easy to find above the pub. Easy access to bus and rail stations (was uphill from the rail station, though). Close to several options for food/drink. Fun, casual crowd at the pub. Pub closed at 11:00 on Friday, so didn’t keep us up unreasonably late. We were concerned about the possibility of street noise waking us up, but wasn’t an issue for us. Room was spacious and comfortable. We were able to leave our luggage at the bar prior to check in, and it was taken up to the room for us by the time we got back.
A 2-minute walk from the train, Station Inn in Hexham offers bed and breakfast close to the town center.

Good location, we were able to drop off our luggage from our arrival by train. We had a twin bedded room, very comfortable and clean. We didn't eat here as they didn't serve meals on Sunday evening but the Sunday lunch looked good and the breakfast was lovely.

Hexham has had a revival in recent years and now has plenty of things happening, local independent shops, cafes, great pubs and restaurants all within easy walking distance and a small theatre. There's plenty of history here so it is worth strolling around the town learning about the past and to see some beautiful historic architecture, it is also a great base for exploring the villages and countryside of Northumberland, Cumberland and the Durham Dales plus Hadrian's Wall of course.
This is a walkers/ cyclists/ bikers paradise so if you like getting outdoors in all weathers then visit Hexham.
To experience the real Northumberland I would recommend a drive up into the Pennines to Allendale, Allenheads then into the Durham Dales to Rookhope and Blanchland- this is countryside far away from the usual tourist route, it's wild and open with big skies and so quiet. Best not to attempt this in bad weather or in wintery conditions though.

The Abbey is very good with a good exhibition on view.
We also visited a couple of eating places which were very good.
Don't go to Haltwhistle on a Wednesday afternoon, although it is the centre of Britain, it's shops mostly shut on Wednesday pm!
Oh, and be sure to pack a rain coat, the showers can be very heavy, keep an eye on the clouds,

Hexham is a wonderful town to visit.
Hexham is a wonderful town to visit. The abbey dominates the scene and should be visited. This English town faced a lot of troubles when England and Scotland were separate countries. At one time Hexhamshire liked to think of itself as being a separete entity fom the rest of North-east England.

Great little town, very walkable, friendly people, lots of cute shops and cafes, architecture, and "old England" feel. The Abbey is spectacular, especially for someone who practices Christianity.

It has a farmer's market every two weeks, with local produce.
There's good supermarkets, Waitrose, Tesco, Lidl.
The park is a great place to walk around.
Close to other towns and cities in Northumberland.
The Sun Inn located in a small village in Hexham. we stayed a night as part of our Hadrian wall hiking trail.
we were greeted by a lovely lady and very clean room and nicely presented with some extra beverage than usual hotel. additional to usual tea and coffee and we had a snack bar, juice and breakfast cereal. it was a nice gesture as they were unable to offer breakfast. As they were unable to offer food the proprietor offered for us to us the lounge, cutlery and crockery for us to use with a takeaway.
Everything in the room worked - the TV, the coffee making facilities, the shower and the wi-fi. There was plenty of storage space for clothes etc. Plus the room was cleaned every day and the staff were very helpful. The location of the hotel is excellent - only a short walk from the centre of Hexham, the bus and railway stations. Breakfast was good with a wide choice of cooked options available. The pub also does good value meals at midday and in the evening.
Stayed at The county Hotel for three days ( racing at Carlise and Hexham ). The rooms were clean, very comfortable, and the staff was amazing. They went over and beyond to help make my stay enjoyable. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone visiting Hexham. I recommend the full English breakfast , you won't need lunch !!!
A great hotel, we had a wonderful room (22) the food was really excellent, and the staff were all really friendly and helpful! Great location, opposite the Abbey and a beautiful park. Everything perfect, wish they were all like this!
Fabulous location in the middle of Hexham. The staff were excellent and very friendly. The restaurant had a wide menu and the food was good and plentiful and for a beer drinker such as myself they served a fine pint of bitter
