I am glad to say that the Kingsbridge main shopping street has not yet been swallowed up by multi-nationals. It does have a Costa Coffee, but it is the only big brand so far. Happily, Fore street has not yet become another clone of the main shopping streets in so many other towns. It still has local butchers, bakers, green grocer, and a toy shop along with interesting gift shops, shoe shop, cafes etc.
One of it's assets is the many Cafes and eating establishments which cater for just about ever kind of taste. They are very varied and everything from a spicy Indian or Chinese dish to an organic salad can be found. There are several pubs which are in and around the Estuary area and most serve food so you can eat and enjoy a coffee or beer inside or out.
There is Farmers market which is held on the first and third Saturdays each month, and weekly market every Tuesday. If you enjoy a rummage, there are some good charity shops, and excellent second hand emporiums located in the small industrial area behind the shops, accessed down Mill Street at the bottom of Fore Street.
The Leisure Center has a swimming pool and if you are feeling energetic, a gym, squash courts and exercise classes, and an on site cafe.
The best way to see Kingsbridge is on foot, and there are two large (pay and display) car parks, one at each end of town.
Kingsbridge is a classic country small town with amenities for local and visiting people. It's peaceful and relaxing within a lovely tree lined estuary setting.
