On the banks of the Lune River, the Holiday Inn Lancaster features an indoor swimming pool and sauna. Just off Junction 34 of the M6 highway, the center of Lancaster is a 30-minute riverside walk... Friendly and helpful staff - brilliant family room, which was clean, quiet (overlooking the River Lune) and with an excellent mattress and comfy chairs. Staff on reception and also serving breakfast were really helpful, cheerful and professional. A very enjoyable stay in this friendly hotel, which has definitely improved since a few years back. We booked a few months in advance, which gave us great value. Thank you for a lovely 2-day visit!

Lancaster Castle is an absolute must and would be best at the weekend when the court is not sitting. It was a gaol seven years ago and is still HM court, so the tour during the week would not be able to interrupt the court sitting. Parking is an issue also during the week but at the weekend the best place to park is at the railway station where you can park all day for £4 and from there you can walk all over central Lancaster which is all pedestrian thoroughfare. I also appreciated the Maritime museum which opened two minutes after I arrived at 12.00 noon. Allow about two hours for the castle and an hour at the most for the Maritime museum.
Lancaster packs a punch above its size - the Grand has some fabulous acts - comedians and music and more more more. The Dukes has theatre and conema and is a great buzzing environment to sit and drink. Lots of lovely places to visit in and around town - go to the Storey for exhibitions and coffee - Atkinson and the Halls for coffee and ambience. History - visit Castle and Prioriy and wander around Castke Hill. The town has a lovely market and museum and Sun Street Music rooms- there are amazing and vibrant festivals through the year - especially the Festival of Light around Bonfire Night is world class. Also Jazz and Music and Literatire festivals. Plus so much more .... lovely places around about too and a great location for nature’s and sea and moor and mountain plus easy access Manchester Birmingham and London.
Lancaster is a beautiful city, Williamson Park is well worth a visit as is the Castle. Be aware of taking under 18s out in the evening as we were asked to leave a pub just after 7pm even though we were sitting as a family and the child was drinking a soft drink
The shopping and museums as well as the variety of pubs makes Lancaster a great place to visit. Not the hustle bustle of London which is very nice, to instead see England in a quieter and historical in Lancaster.
Lots of good venues to eat, drink and shop. Would highly recommend the food at The Sultan of Lancaster - Indian Restaurant situated in an old church - beautiful. No alcohol served. For real ale lovers would recommend The Robert Gillow. Lancaster centre has an excellent outdoor market on Saturdays with pop up food stalls.
There is lots of things to do and see Dinner theaters, amusement park, along with Base ball also sight and sound and American Music Theater. City tours and A lot of eateries . My favorite places to eat is Texas Road House, Long Horns and Red Lobster.

The accommodation was functional and comfortable - the bed mattress was very comfortable and tea/coffee generous. The only things missing compared to a basic hotel was a TV and a lift so take your laptop, tablet or phone and connect to the free wi-fi, and if you can't do stairs ask for the ground floor. Breakfast had a very big choice and was excellent.
