Set on the banks of the River Lune, Holiday Inn Lancaster offers an indoor swimming pool, and sauna. Loved the grounds where I could walk my two dogs. Lovely pathway behind the hotel is perfect for bike riding or enjoying scenery. The rooms were clean and very comfortable. I got lucky and had a small refrigerator in my room. Shower was lovely and all accommodations were exactly what I needed for a great night's rest.

Some of the best hotels in Lancaster near Trough of Bowland include Castle View, Quite Simply French and The Royal Hotel and Bar.
This is a very small city, but it has excellent bus services, a great network of cycle/walking tracks, and it is close to the Forest of Bowland (about 15 mins by car), and the Lake District (Southern Lakes about an hour), whilst Morecambe is a bit down at heel, the bay is rather beautiful, and there is abundant birdlife to observe. Do be aware that Lancaster's position on the west coast means that it can be very wet, so take a waterproof.
The castle, with its history was the best aspect of the trip. On the downside, there were a lot of empty shops in the town centre, and more having a closing down sale. Very nice restaurants around the castle area, serving traditional food of a high standard.
Lovely little place, enough of everything you need (pubs, restaurants etc... and things to do), friendly football club too! Just avoid term time because the University students are a nightmare for noise until the early hours!
Lancaster has lots to offer with many independent shops as well as high street chains. Lots of history and some really good local historical pubs all within walking distance of each other . Wide variety of restaurants offering different types of food. The Castle is steeped in history and I recommend a visit. There’s also a great music festival in October that goes on for four days . Well worth a visit
Lancaster is a lovely quaint city with lots of variety of shops, restaurants and things to do. There is a canal which you can walk along and also the riverside. Alternatively you can visit the cathedral or Williamson Park.
If you like your pubs rather than clubs then Lancaster is the place for you. It's possible the best place in all of the North West for a pub crawl that won't break the wallet and isn't too much of a slog.
Lancaster
We decided to take a short break whilst visiting daughter at Lancaster University. Baloo is very well equipped and spotlessly clean. Based on the Wyreside country estate near Trough of Bowland. Open plan kitchen and living area make for great games and fun. Kitchen is appointed with top of the range Bosch and in utility room. Bathroom has excellent shower and rolled topped bath. All fixtures and fittings very high standard. Egyptian cotton towels too. Well organised and we were looked after well by Andy on joining. High recommended.
The breakfast was excellent; lots of choice, freshly prepared food and very good service. The evening meals were very good also. The staff are amongst the best we have ever encountered in the many hotels we have stayed in. Quite frankly, we have never come across such a friendly group of staff as this hotel has on is payroll. The hotel is also the most pet friendly we have encountered in the UK. We had a very special time at Lancaster House Hotel and will definitely go there again.
The hotel is well positioned in the centre of Lancaster and it is just a short walk to pubs, restuarants and shops. There is no car park but there is a 'Park Safe' car park 10 minutes walk away and the hotel are able to provide a discounted rate, which is good. We decided not to take breakfast as we wanted to get away early, but plenty of people were eating and it looked good (from a distance!)
Great hotel right in the centre of Lancaster. Received a lovely welcome on arrival and then had my room upgraded which is always a bonus! Will certainly stay here again. Didn't stay for dinner as I was watching the football so didn't have time, but was told by other guests that the food is lovely. Breakfast was very nice.
Lancaster
The place is in an absolutely perfect setting. It’s gorgeous inside and out! It has all the amenities you would need and then some. We will definitely try to stay here again if we come back to Lancaster!
Booked two rooms to help my daughter move into uni. Lovely hotel. Rooms were clean, modern and decorated with a lot of thought to detail. Breakfast was lovely too.
Lancaster
Park safe facilities were very close to the hotel. The room was clean. It was possible to make your own coffee/tea.
Easy getting into Lancaster Centre despite heavy traffic some days. Good pool size.
Lancaster
Friendly staff and room size. The central location of the hotel in Lancaster too.
It is easy to walk to restaurants and attractions from the hotel.
Lancaster
The apartment was perfect. Short walk into the city. Well appointed, clean, lots of attention to detail - felt more like a home than a rental apartment. And Ciara from Apad Apartments was extremely helpful and took the initiative to email us after arrival to check that we had settled in OK. As a bonus, there was even onsite parking and a car rental agency 5 minutes walk from the apartment.
Lancaster
Really clean and warm. Great shower and toiletries provided. Kitchen basics like tea / coffee / sugar / dishwasher tablets / washing machine pods etc.. all provided. Would definitely recommend these apartments - the only down side I would say is the creaky floors - always conscious of the people below!!
Lancaster
Another great stay at Lancaster University!
