The Black Lion is a 15th century inn overlooking the green with an award-winning restaurant and views of Melford Hall. Rooms are furnished with antiques and modern artifacts from around the world. My stay was for my wedding party consisting of my three children, their partners, myself, grandson and family dog. We all had dinner the night before and I only stayed one night whereas everyone else stayed two. None of us could fault anything. The staff particularly made an occasion which could have been stressful relaxed and 100% enjoyable. Can't wait to stay again.

located in long melford and 5 minute drive from Sudbury town center, this accommodations features free Wi-Fi, free private parking and a garden for guests to relax in. This was a lovely place that had all sorts of comforts- a nice terrace outside, basic cooking facilities, including a fridge and microwave, makings for a good breakfast, and a good location within walking distance of the center of Long Melford. It is effectively a room- so not to make out that it is a self-catering property, but basic picnic meals could be prepared and eaten on the terrace. And, it was a reasonable price!

Located in a small town, this inn provides real ale, good home-cooked food from local suppliers, a fine wine menu and live entertainment on a regular basis. Room was spacious and very clean with original exposed beams - very quiet - staff were very friendly
Long Melford is a lovely town, lots of shops, not your big stores, more small independent shops selling gifts, lovely antique shops, a fantastic tea room, we found it a place to amble, take time and enjoy, lovely houses, a green with a beautiful church, also a hall and gardens to visit. Numerous places to eat.
Really great location for exploring West Suffolk and North Essex. Scenery terrific, with some exceptional towns and villages such as Clare and Cavendish, And if you like Victorian, buildings take a trip to the magnificent Chappel Viaduct in the Colne Valley.
The item on concern was the entrance door to the room every one we spoke to all said the same thing the doors made such a bang to close them especially when people leaving very early in the morning very annoying to be woken up with such a loud bang the staff where excellent food good just ashame about doors closing which could easily be fixed being a retired builder wouldn't cost a fortune.
A lovely village with a beautiful church, country park and NT Melford Hall. Only 1 disappointment was that the hall was closed on Moday and Tuesday so we were unable to visit. But a good reason to return. Nearby Kentwell Hall is amazing and well worth a visit for the gardens, grounds and old house.
Long Melford is a great place to stay for exploring local area there are a variety of independent shops lots of free parking in the main street we visited Long Melford and Clare country parks and Sudbury travelling through quaint little villages stopping for coffee and little antique shops along the way
A lovely village feel with lots of friendly residents. A great location to explore the area. The Black lion is a must do for an excellent dining experience. There are enough antique shops, bars and restaurants in the immediate are without having to drive.
Long Melford
All the staff were lovely. Being an old building I didn’t expect the room to be as big as it was. I have fibromyalgia so had to ask for an extra quilt, so I could lay on one and put the other over me, it was provided immediately. The meals were superb and so much nicer as I didn’t have to cook them myself. The hotel car park wasn’t very big but we normally managed to find a space on the road and parking was free which is rare these days.
Long Melford
Everything about the stay was perfect. The freestanding bath was a truly amazing experience, the shower room was beautiful and the low lighting was amazing. The attention to detail in this room made the stay simply wonderful. Paul and Clare should be incredibly proud of the work they have done to create this perfect luxury B&B. Long Melford is a beautiful historic village and we will definitely return. Can not recommend enough.

Long Melford
Lovely breakfast, comfortable bed and room, great bath, and a lovely garden. Claire and her 3-legged cat are excellent hosts, and we really felt at home here. The cottage is in a quiet, one-way lane, so the loudest external noise is the dawn chorus. It's a short walk from Long Melford's shops, restaurants, and pubs, and a very short drive from Kentwell Hall, where we were participating in an event.
Long Melford
Friendly and efficient staff; comfortable room, excellent breakfasts and a very good dinner (the portions are best described as "serious"). We've stayed here previously and it's my first choice stopover for Long Melford
