Lower slaughter is simply beautiful. It was a pleasure to be in such a peaceful little village where a slice of old England has been frozen in time . We visited at the end of June so the countryside looked lush and green, a great time to visit .Take a stroll along the river and soak up the atmosphere, pass the beautiful water mill and back past the little cottages. It’s a great after dinner walk. If you ever need to escape head for lower slaughter.
Pretty Gardens with babbling brook, very private accomodation, we ate breakfast and fish and chips in our rooom, but more in outdoor settings away from the Hotel as food was not available. Walking in Lower Slaughter was fabulous to the mill and beyond, and to Boughton on the Water. The dog and both of us had a wonderful time.
friendliness of staff , location, quality and presentation of meals were all worth recommending. The accommodation was fine but just a couple of things would have made a difference as detailed in my review.
I wrote a review last week as I was furious about the flashing light above my bed keeping me awake. However, the brilliant GM Steve, patiently explained the health and safety of their guests is paramount hence the need to have carbon monoxide detectors in each room. I’ve tried to change my review but Booking.com don’t seem to have an editing option. I highly recommend the area and hotel.
Lower Slaughter is a very quiet and pretty Cotswold Village. It is very popular with visitors which must be tiresome with the residents, particularly at the moment. Finding somewhere to park can be a problem from late morning onwards. There are several walks that originate in the Village which is a bonus and the Lower Slaughter Country Inn is open to non residents.
Lower Slaughter is a very small but very pretty hamlet with a first class hotel and a old mill which is now a museum, shop and cafe. Unfortunately, due to the Covid situation the mill was not open and the cafe had moved to just around the corner but with a limited choice. Once the pandemic is over then things will return to normal. There is a much used path for hikers to walk the distance from Lower Slaughter to Upper Slaughter, approx one mile.
