My husband and I had never visited Morecambe before. The promenade is really great. It has been beautifully refurbished and is now wide and decorative and safe to be used by walkers joggers cyclists disabled. We were shocked by the town centre, which was very run down and seedy. There was a shopping area near the seafront with supermarkets etc, but this is a town which needs more rejuvenation.
Morecambe used to equal Blackpool as a seaside destination but it is clearly suffering from the decline in the English seaside as a mass destination over decades but more recently (I`m given to understand that) it is overshadowed in facilities by nearby Lancaster. Add to that the economic climate of austerity and some parts of the town are outright grim with plenty of shut-up shops and pubs. The glorious restored Midland Hotel is the exception, and the seafront / beach area itself has clearly also been looked after and recently renovated. The upside is that property is so cheap compared with elsewhere, that people unable to afford more prosperous towns are moving in and are trying to inject some new life into the town with a Fringe and Comedy Festival set to be an annual fixture. The Alt-Space Centre for instance is a performance space which encourages local writers poets and performers to get involved and it puts on free good-quality shows. It is also rumoured that there will be an Eden Project set up which will really pull in the tourists. I hope so because Morecambe really deserves to be a nicer place for residents and visitors alike.
The promenade in Morecambe is very good and the views across the bay are stunning on a clear day. The gardens are probably lovely in Spring & Summer (not so much in January obviously) but sadly some of the beautiful architectural buildings have been left to go into decline and need some investment. It's a shame to see big "in your face" shop branding such as B&M on these once regal buildings that now look so run down. Some investment is needed in the town to bring back some of the lost treasures and make it feel more "loved"
Morecambe is most definitely a great place to visit. So much going on over the last few years and it's looking quite beautiful along the promenade. Council are doing a splendid job. If the plans for Morecambe like the Eden Project to ahead too, this place will give Blackpool a run for its money. I've loved my stay. I've been coming to the Vintage festival for the last three years the atmosphere is fantastic. It's got to be one of the best free weekends entertainment anywhere. The Winter Garden Theatre is being lovingly restored to its former splendor by the volunteers and it's wonderful to see a community working together to make Morecambe a fantastic destination to come to. Thank you Morecambe!
Morecambe used to be a bustling seaside town but now it's a worn out, run down place. Loads of shops, bars & restaurants seem to have shut down. I think I'll stay in Lancaster next time. I realise my stay was out of season but I don't think I would stay at this hotel again. The only plus was that the chap on reception (if you can call it that) was very welcoming.
Morecambe itself is a typical seaside town it has few shops plenty of bars it is a little behind the times and fine to use as base as the nearby city of Lancaster has a much more modern feel with trendy shops and bars is steeped in history with a castle and beautiful park .

This was our first trip to Morecambe, as we are a young couple early 20’s we are on a tight budget. I stumbled across this hotel with a brilliant location at a price of £80 for one night in a family room, the room was very spacious and could sleep 4 people in, equipped with plenty of drawer storage and a small bathroom (shower, toilet and sink). We didn’t eat at the hotel but we did enjoy the bar in the evening which is lovely! We had plenty of places nearby to explore and very cheap parking behind the hotel!

This beautiful 1930’s hotel has been lovingly restored. It’s situated right on the seafront, with stunning views across Morecambe Bay to the mountains of Cumbria - and the original architects knew how to make the most of those views, with a long ‘conservatory’ dining room. The rooms are funky with lovely details - even down to a dolphin design in the shower drain, echoing Gill’s dolphin sculptures on the facade. The staircase is stunning. The staff were all lovely.

Fabulous apartment overlooking Morecambe Bay, excellent location for everything. It is finished to a hi-spec with very modern open plan living area, very comfortable bedroom and spotlessly clean through out, the bathroom is beautifully presented. Owners are extremely helpful and friendly, nothing a problem, have stayed twice now and would highly recommend it.

Fabulous bed and breakfast accommodation, fantastic view over Morecambe bay from our room. The hosts were very welcoming and couldn't do enough to help you. Breakfast was lovely with plenty of options and we had a lovely cafetire of fresh coffee with it too. Would most definitely stay at the Berkeley again if we visit Morecambe in the near future.

From the moment we entered the hotel we were made very welcome by the receptionist, she explained everything and showed us to our room as husband was in wheelchair. Other staff were friendly and nothing was to much bother to them. Room was very spacious and clean. Good choice on the breakfast menu. Would definitely return if going back to Morecambe.

The manager was very helpful but the hotel is a bit older and my room didn't have heat. He brought me a portable one when I asked. The rooms are very elegant with a beautiful dining room and lounge. Also a delicious full breakfast was available.

Fantastic breakfast and cooked to perfection. Beds were one of the comfiest we have ever slept in and the hotel is family ran, which is even more pleasant given how helpful and polite they were. We were overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity by the staff and the little touches they added upon arrival. Exceeded expectations and would certainly stay again, definitely recommend to anyone!
