It was a beautiful village with a churchyard full of 200 year old Yews. I was surprised there were very few shops such as cafes, delis etc. There are a couple of pubs and the Falcon has really good food although on the pricey side. There was a 'pooch' cafe that was closed and a village hall cafe (again closed). The Rococo Garden is worth a visit and this was used as an overnight stay on our retuen from Cornwall. I would probably choose a livelier village next time.
Painswick is idyllic with stunning views. You are very close to other places like Rococo Gardens, Tetbury, Bilbury and Stroud Town Centre. We found the people very friendly and places we visited absolutely gorgeous, just like a picture postcard. Definitely worth visiting!
Painswick is a very small town, and so it is not fair to expect the kind of amenities and facilities that exist as a norm in large towns and cities. There are a few places to eat - we ate at both The Falcon and St Michael's Bistro. But my main reasons for choosing to stay at Painswick were, one: simply because I had never been there before and I wanted to have a look at it, and two: because it was a good base from which I could take my son to zoos and animal centres in the area.
Beautiful small quirky, quiet, historic village. Use the main village car park as village streets very narrow and parking very limited. Be aware of high demand for restaurant/eating out options in village, but there are further options if willing to drive. Pretty countryside location, great for exploring Cotswold villages and towns.
We have been to Painswick before, and it is a lovely little quaint village with some lovely buildings, that is why we went back. The Bistro that we stayed in was unfortunately empty, obviously due to COVID. We did have a continental breakfast which was good. We also ended up eating in a local pub around the corner in the evenings and the food and staff were lovely.
Beautiful place but recent closures of pubs and places to eat has left it under-served for tourists. One pub was busy and one cafe too though we managed to get in at both. Rococo garden was worth the visit. Tourist Info seemed to be permanently closed. Probably all due to Covid - hope they get back on their feet soon.
Painswick
Excellent stand-alone lodge, with beautiful views over the garden and Painswick valley. Living room and kitchen upstairs, whilst bedroom and bathroom are downstairs. We appreciated the fresh flowers and welcome treats on arrival. Welcoming and warm hosts with extensive experience of hosting visitors. Will recommend to friends and hope to visit again.
Painswick
Good breakfast. Location needed the name of Tibbiwell Lodge at the drive entrance. It was very busy in Painswick when we arrived and the steep narrow streets are difficult to negotiate. We drove down and couldn’t identify the place and had to park elsewhere and explore on foot. It would have been so much easier if the name were displayed!
Painswick
Lovely quiet location, Martyn was very helpful and the accommodation was outstanding. We went for 3 nights and it was perfect - only a short drive from other towns, city centres and shopping. Plenty of local pubs/restaurants (we recommend the Foston’s Ash). Couldn’t have been improved at all!

Superb guest house in very centre of Painswick. Excellent facilities, breakfast and location. The owner and staff made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived. We were staying one night after long walk and this relieved most of our pains!
It was absolutely beautiful and so was the garden, very dog friendly. it was right in the centre of Painswick, the kitchen had everything you could need. The beds were very comfortable and the log burner a real cosy bonus.
