We were on an "All Creatures Great and Small" trip, and Richmond made a great base. There were loads of amenities (restaurants, shops, pubs) in Richmond, and the countryside is as beautiful as in video.
A vibrant town , with plenty of parking, shops, restaurants . Friendly locals and staff. History, museums, lovely riverside and country walks. Children and dog friendly. Clean and pretty town, with a cinema and theatre.
We've wanted to visit Richmond for many years but never got around to it. Whilst the market place is historic we found the entrance to the castle hard to find. Maybe better signage? Our biggest disappointment was a lack of places for evening meals. Yes the hotel overlooking the market square is beautiful & we ate there twice but the many pubs around the square were uninviting (Skytv/slot machines etc) plus they appeared to be quite run down & were largely empty. (Maybe if we'd taken a local map we'd have made more of the countryside around the town though we did enjoy a walk along the old railway line & past Easby Abbey. Very scenic). Difficult to imagine us returning sadly.
I was there for a cricket match, and the Richmondshire CC was superb, and beautiful, like the town itself. I particularly liked the river (Swale) and the waterfalls below the castle, full of swimmers on a warm evening. The whole area is gorgeous Yorkshire Dales, with Reeth, Keld, Thwaite, Muker, Gunnerside, etc, etc.
Good morning, I just wanted to say straight away how pleased we are with the apartment. We have never stayed in such a lovely place, immaculately clean and so well equipped, even down to dishwasher and washing machine tablets! The location is excellent, walking distance to the town. We stay in Richmond at least once a year to visit my husbands family and will certainly try to book this again. Just one thing, is the downstairs apartment the same as upstairs, I did not realise there were two apartments when booking and would probably book downstairs next time, my knees aren’t what they were
Gorgeous! Totally surrounded by ancient woods this historic and unspoiled high settlement is set above and next to the curving and natural river Swale.Very historic and characterful small town - I kept thinking King Henry Vlll was going to ride round the corner with a posse of soldiers!!! Some lovely bars and restaurants- really enjoyed the Tapas bar and the Little Drummer Boy cafe. Smaller than I thought and less touristy- this is a great place to visit with few chain shops just lots of independents and friendly locals.
What a lovely hotel. Recently refurbished to the highest quality it was an aesthetic delight to stay in. And such a beautiful period building. It was extremely hot when we stayed but the hotel found us a wonderful dyson fan that made it possible to relax: lovely. The bed was a mile wide, the shower generous with good water pressure and four - yes FOUR - different shower heads. The service was outstanding. Really 12 our of 10. I would heartily recommend the hotel.
Richmond
Great location for exploring North Yorkshire. Lovely large bedrooms and bathroom perfect for our family of 5. Small but fully equipped kitchen with everything you need. Comfortable and cosy lounge diner. Very pretty street and an easy (uphill) walk into Richmond. Plenty of on street parking. We had a fun Halloween weekend and found the property good value for what we paid.
Richmond
Fantastic place to stay in Richmond, a little pricier than alternatives in the area, but room was spotless, spacious and well equipped as well as comfortable bed. Breakfast was amazing, the hosts really look after you and the choice of hot and cold food (including fresh omelettes) was really really good. Parking wasn't too expensive and was right outside the property
The apartment was exactly as described, very clean and in a great location. It had everything you needed, a well equipped kitchen, comfortable bed and lounge/diner. Jim the host kept in touch with any information you may need. Richmond is a great place to stay and a short drive away to explore the Yorkshire Dale's.
