Saffron Walden
Located in Saffron Walden, 1.8 miles from Audley End House, The Cross Keys features a restaurant, a bar and a terrace, as well as free WiFi. At the inn, every room comes with a closet. The staff were friendly and very helpful. You have to enter through the restaurant. We were asked just to wait 5 min, till he was done serving. He was super kind, he even helped us with our bags up the stairs. (Note: you pay up front for your stay). Our room was super clean and cute. Our room didn't have AC but had a fan. If you need AC, on booking request to stay in the wing by the barn. Those room will have it. When we stayed (after the heat wave) it was cooler at night so it was no problem. The room is small but it had everything you needed. Breakfast was good and our server (Claude I think that's how you spell his name, sorry if not) was an amazing host. Always greeted us with a smile and made us laugh. Amazing young man.

Hinxton (Near Saffron Walden)
In a tiny village south of Cambridge, this appealing 16th-century freehouse has an AA Rosette restaurant, an atmospheric bar, and new-build rooms with private bathrooms with free internet. Very friendly staff. Nice and cosy rooms. A Tasty breakfast Great location if visiting wellcome.
Lovely bathroom (Room 1) but basin tap shot water all over you and the floor. We booked 2 nights for bed and breakfasts and only got one breakfast. When we queried this they said we booked room only for one night even though we paid the same (£80) for both nights booked.
Nice place. Free prosecco on the arrival day. Very comfortable bed. Peaceful atmosphere. Cosy restaurant. Very kind receptionist Matt. The room could be a bit brighter and warmer, but I got extra blankets and additional heater! Thank you very much.
It's a lovely little town with an ancient market Square , a market is held on Tuesdays and Saturdays. There are many delightful small shops and no big department stores other than a large Waitrose. The Waitrose car park provides the best acces to the ancient narrow streets. Audley End, an English Heritage house and garden is close by and well worth visiting.
Saffron Walden is a very interesting market town, not far from Cambridge. Lovely parish church and old buildings. Car parking difficult as most roads have permit parking. Town car park on the outskirts of town and cannot park there overnight. Three hours parking near the common with access to the town via Rose and Crown alleyway.
Good Car parking facilities at the premises. Evening meal was very good. Location of premises was very good. Met by staff member who was pleasant. The rooms were clean and tidy with tea and coffee facilities. · My originally booking was for 2 people for 2 rooms with double beds, I got 1 room with double bed and 1 room with a single bed. The rooms were very basic consisting of a bed, bedside cabinet and a set of drawers only. Each room had their own shower/toilet and in my room (room 4, single bed) the hot water pressure in shower was poor and the hot water temperature was lukewarm. In dining room both morning water was coming down from ceiling and 3 buckets were on the floor to catch most of the water it appeared to me that the water was coming from a room above the ceiling when the occupant in room 5 was having a shower. Breakfast was passable but not great by any means.
The medieval houses are amazing. Lots of information available from Tourist Information including a short walking tour which takes in special places of interest. The museum is great for such a small town and well worth a visit.
