The Cross Keys is located in Saffron Walden, 1.8 miles from Audley End House. Guests can dine in the restaurant or a drink at the bar and free WiFi is available. Amazing bedrooms in the Cobblers barn with a very comfortable vintage slipper bath. Dinner in the bar was just amazing with very fresh and tasty food.
In the small medieval village of Littlebury, the family-run Queenshead Inn offers free on-site parking and rooms with attached bathroom with free WiFi. Food was limited in range but well cooked. No pub food available on Sunday evening, which was somewhat bizarre. Location was great because we were in the area for Duxford airshow. Bed was uncomfortable - poor quality mattresses on wooden framed beds and sloping floor meant backache each morning Shows was only one temperature - scalding hot, apparently because of s piping problem but not told that until I complained. Very dangerous for children ot the elderly. Also, took so long to run the bath and then add cold from the sink that it took over 30 mins to get bathed and out the first morning.

This former Georgian coaching inn located in the picturesque village of Great Chesterford, just off the M11 motorway, features a garden and free parking. Friendly, helpful staff. Comfortable bar area. Large room with four poster bed, high comfortable mattress. Beautiful en-suite with "his and hers" sinks. Tasty, well cooked breakfast. Would highly recommend.
Wellcome Genome Campus Conference Center sits alongside the river Cam and is set within 125 acres of parkland, wetland and formal gardens in the village of Hinxton, just outside the market town of... The breakfast was great, lots of selection and fresh pastries. The bed was large and comfortable (although a king size bed means two twins pushed together). Bathroom was very clean. Lots of parking. Generally quiet, slept well.
In a tiny village south of Cambridge, this appealing 16th-century freehouse has an AA Rosette restaurant, an atmospheric bar, and new-build rooms with private bathrooms with free internet. Literally everything. The food was top notch, the cottages were very nice, the courtyard was beautiful, the staff was polite. Exceeded all my expectations and would absolutely go back if/when I'm in Cambridge again.
The Three Hills features free WiFi and views of garden in Bartlow. At the hotel, every room comes with a desk. Rooms come with a private bathroom and free toiletries. Convenient for visit to friends. Nice to see a pub/restaurant with rooms raising the standard.
Picturesque architecture combined with Civil War history and heavy Quaker influence makes Saffron Walden a charming place to visit. Nearby is Audley End House which has lovely grounds - but don't be deceived for the railway station of the same name is quite a trek away from the house itself. Be prepared for a walk.
Lovely compact town to explore.Plenty of little shops, lots of cafés and full of quirky architecture. Easy to spend two or three hours there. Had nice evening meal at the Crosskeys on the High Street and good lunch at Connie's.

We had room 9 which is a superior King room. Large room. Bath in room a separate shower and toilet. It is in the old barn. Decor good not fussy. Hand basin in room has a mixer tap. Air conditioning . Staff lovely. Nothing too much trouble. Dinner fine in the pub. Reasonable selection of wine. Parking is available. We stayed a second night since hotel and the market town of Saffron Walden appealed.
