St Ives is a picturesque Cornish coastal town that has long been an inspiration and home for artists. The sculptor Barbara Hepworth lived and worked here, and her house and sculpture garden is now a wonderful museum that is not to be missed. Tate St Ives has a revolving programme of excellent temporary art exhibitions, with the gallery building overlooking the stunning Porthmeor beach. Just below Tate St Ives, facing the beach is an excellent café, where you can look out to sea while enjoying a coffee. The town has lots of other good cafés, pubs and eateries and seven lovely beaches to enjoy. If you like walking, St Ives forms just part of the 630 mile South West Cost Path that runs from Minehead in Somerset, along the coasts of Devon and Cornwall, to Poole Harbour in Dorset. It is very easy to walk around St Ives, which has many winding streets hosting independent shops, and you are never very far away from an art gallery.
Plenty to do there, great beaches, some lovely bars and restaurants and different boat rides to suit all. You can walk round everywhere ok a bit hilly take your time and enjoy the views. But beware of the seagulls they are a pain
St ives is a really beautiful place. The beaches are stunning, the harbour is full of character. If you've had enough of the beach there's plenty of lovely shops and galleries to explore. The only downside is the shortage of parking. There are plenty of great places to eat.
St Ives is a stunning place with local beaches. There is something for everyone. In August much hustle and bustle of Grockles ( holiday makers) wanting to eat out, spend and slowly mooch around- BUT you can still find quieter areas if you want and escape through boat trips, walking, coastal train rides, open top bus to Lands End and more and, of course, go in the water- surf, swim, paddle. The Tate Gallery and Barbara Hepworth's art is a big draw for visitors from around the world. Leave your car at home, travel by train or bus and have some freedom- you can still go places that will intrigue you! Everyone was happy on the sands- from babies to the very elderly- a lovely sight and sound.
Love St ives, one of my favourite destinations in the uk but it was too busy, can not get to eat anything as restaurant do not have availability if you are happy with chips and snacks then its ok Parking is a big issue everything is very expensive
Chaotic and artsy. I walked around, dined at a couple of places, went to the beach, museums, and to the cinemas when it rained. A list of things-to-do might stop one from over-indulging because there's a lot to do. A great place for a solo traveller. other than a bunch of drunk idiots, as a woman - walking about at night felt safe.
