Spean Bridge
Located in the small village of Spean Bridge in the Scottish Highlands, the award-winning Smiddy House & Russell's restaurant is just a 5-minute drive from the banks of Loch Lochy. Room was wonderful as was dinner. Best Cullen skink soup in Scotland. Was also extremely accommodating of gluten free request. Even delayed our dinner reservation when our car broke down! We will be back.

Distant Hills is a modern couple-run guest house providing a good quality Bed and Breakfast service. What a wonderful place to stay and Cameron and Dani could not have been more accommodating - such delightful people and wonderful breakfast and great rooms. Location is stunning too. Would highly recommend this place, but not when I want to go again to ensure there's a room so I can book it! Haha!
Spean Bridge
Room with a view is located in Spean Bridge. Featuring free WiFi, the property also has a garden, barbecue facilities and a terrace. I loved everything about room with a view - the cozy living space, comfy bed, location, breakfast items and appliances (fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle) and most of all the wonderful host Kim! She was so welcoming, and we had some great conversations! I love animals and she had adorable cats, a dog, and a rabbit. Photo shows Kim and her dog.
We only stayed one night on our way to Skye and again one night on return journey so didn’t really explore Spean bridge but it looked like a nice little villiage. We didn’t eat out. Nice commando memorial to visit.
Enjoyed the vegan option (moussaka with lentil sauce) at the Old Station restaurant: great comfort food. Nice pints on draft (Spean Bridge lager - local!- and Station Yard pale ale) with very friendly service. The local Spar shop, next to the hotel, is well stocked and even has vegan items. I have used Spean Bridge as a starting point for stages of the Great Glen Way but this is the first time I overnighted. Would do so again.
A great location, ideally suited for setting up for exploring and discovering the stunning surrounding area. I would definitely return and book early to try a different room and continue to explore the area and revisit my favourites.
Charming little village that's much nicer than the dump that is Fort William. Great access to restaurants, pub, shop, B+Bs, Commando Memorial, ski slope and the hills that's at least as good as Fort William.
An accessible and beautiful location for exploring further North as well as remaining in the immediate area. There is not much in Spean Bridge itself, although beautiful. Nearby Fortwilliam is a disgrace upon the Local Council for it's grotty appearance. Given the amount of Tourists through there every year one would think they would try to clean it up and put some attractions within.
The Station restaurant was excellent for dinner. The views of the mountains was great. We could see a little of Ben Nevis in the distance. Spean Bridge is also a route centre. It is also on the famous West Highland Railway.
