Stroud is a beautiful location with unspoilt valleys to enjoy. It is also quite historic in that it is Laurie Lee country. The driving is not the easiest as the roads and lanes are very narrow. But the walking is superb.
Stroud is a pleasant, fair-sized town with plenty of shops, restaurants/cafés/pubs and other amenities. It also has a train station, a bus station and a taxi rank so makes a good touring base.
Beautiful countryside. Worth a trip for lunch or an evening meal to “the wool pack” in Slad. This was a haunt of the great author and traveller Laurie lee Rococo gardens are interesting and well worth a visit
Stroud is a few miles off the M5 and about 10 miles from Gloucester. Gloucester Services on the M5 is worth a visit, even if you don't need the loo. It's deli is a wonder, but not cheap! Owned by the same people as Tebay. Stroud is on the edge of the Cotswolds and has buildings in the typical honey-coloured limestone. It has most of the supermarkets. It's historic with a canal that once connected the Thames and the Severn. Seems to be a local centre. Visit Woodchester Mansion, a few miles from town, next to the gliding club. It's an unfinished Gothic revival building. Lots of restaurants in town.
I was there for work so not much time to check out the surroundings. The village is the perfect example of what England looks like in the mind of a ‘foreneir’. I have promised myself I’ll be back for 2 or 3 days to check out the beautiful walks and all the local food!!
Hotel was at Painswick not Stroud Small town with lots of walks, get booklet, few places to get food and drink but convenience store open late. Stroud a 10 minute drive but did not visit. Went to Rococo Gardens at Painswick , snowdrop time
The hotel is lovely, it's in a very quiet and beautiful location with plenty of on site parking. The staff were very approachable and welcoming throughout our stay and the room was clean with a lovely view. The bed was incredibly comfortable. Breakfast was very nice too. The hotel is in a great location for visiting Gloucester, Cheltenham and the surrounding area, it has some nice pubs for food and drink locally too.
Food great. Staff all very personable and supportive. Great dogs are allowed there, loads of space for them to run outside. And they were certainly no problem in the hotel. Great surroundings, good like I said, quiet, lovely soft beds. Who could ask for more. Wouldn’t hesitate to back anytime of the year. For got to say, lovely linen, loads of thick towels. View from window across the moors just lovely.

Location is great for walking and views of the surrounding area. Accommodation was spacious for 2 people and had everything we needed. Short bus ride into Stroud for shopping etc. Perfect for a short-break to get away from it all.

We really liked the apartment, it's very spacious, clean and well presented. Very quirky inside with lots of different levels and rooms, and the two full bathrooms (one with bath and one with shower) were very useful. The Old Fleece pub/restaurant next door, was fantastic. The food was wonderful and the staff so friendly. There are some lovely walks in the area.

Spacious two bedroom apartment with separate lounge area and well designed kitchenette. For the space, the accommodation represents reasonable value for money and it is dog friendly (but you will have to eat out for breakfast or pack food). Friendly staff and pretty good pub food downstairs
The breakfast was delicious, the restaurant was excellent, and had a few wonderful vegetarian and plant-based options, divinely flavoured. The staff were lovely and friendly, and the hotel itself was stunning - stylish with a country classic feel. The gardens and setting were sublime.
