This place is simply the best. Everything you could ask for in a budget hostel and more. Very relaxed set up and family run by laid back helpful people. I got stranded in Thurso due to car breakdown and James the proprietor found me a bed for an extra 3 nights with no hassle. All areas clean -done daily I can testify, kitchen well equipped and restocked daily, bedding changed daily and comfortable and hot showers. I took a twin room one night they’re very good and worth the small extra if you can afford it. Well placed in centre of town close to railway station, beach etc. Cant praise it enough, very grateful and I’ll be back as Arnie said. Thanks for the stay. Mikhail

Very good value for money. You can get a breakfast and or dinner on site. I didn't have the breakfast but did have the dinner on the two nights I stayed. What I ordered was very good and they had a good variety of choices on the menu. My room was a single bedroom but plenty of space. Shower worked very well , as cold or hot as you wanted it. Both room and toilet/shower were clean on arrival. Your given one key for your room and should you be out late, that same key opened the main door of the hotel. The hotel is more or less sited one street of the town centre. What more can you ask for .

Excellent . Central. Location and staff so very helpful
People friendly and everybody relaxed it seemed. Quiet and peaceful if windswept and a bit bleak in bad weather. Very interesting history and sites to visit. Excellent museum with fascinating display in Dounreay vuvlear power station and standing stones. Also the ruined St. Peter’s Kirk a must see and be sure to meet Maureen the guide who will tell you all about it. All the shops you could need for supplies with Tesco and Coop close to centre. Restaurants and take always plentiful. I don’t drink so can’t comment on pubs but there are ample. Town clean - no litter, dog crap or graffiti. Handy for Orkney ferry. Loved it. Mikhail

Thurso is almost a necessary stop when doing the NC500.
Thurso is almost a necessary stop when doing the NC500. It was very quiet and in my opinion tired and run down. We ate at the "Y not" and if asked - I would say Y not go somewhere else. The food was bland and looked like it been under the heat lamp for ages. The waitress forgot my starter so that didn't happen and the steak was straight out of the freezer, over cooked and tasteless. This doesn't mean on another night they could get it right. It seamed busy but the restaurant choices arnt vast which might explain why. Our friends stayed at the Weigh inn and were happy with their stay. We didnt see much of the town other than stopping in Invictus for a drink on the high st where the staff there were almost friendly - we are English after all. A warm welcome wasn't on a plate for a lot of our journey. The hotel Invictus was attached to looked nice but again not a lot of choice and this was full when we looked in May although I didnt see a guest arrive or leave.

Stopped off as part of NC500.
Stopped off as part of NC500. Out of town shopping has killed the centre. No major chains other than Tesco, Superdrug and A good Co-op in the centre. Some really good independent food/home ware shops and at least one really good restaurant.

Very easy to find just off the A9.
Very easy to find just off the A9. Easy to access with key box. Free parking on the road right outside the front door.
Clean, comfortable, well equipped kitchen, large fridge/freezer, washing machine, outside washing line - no dryer (laundrettes with dryer across the road). Nice outside sitting area at the back! Easy to walk to shops, river, beach - co-op 2 mins away (a little noisy at 5 am with deliveries if sleeping in main bedroom) excellent fish and chip takeaway opposite the house!
Short drive to Castle of Mey (worth a visit) and John O’Groats!
Would definitely stay again if visiting the North of Scotland!

We only stayed here one night so was passing through, but did use a local garage to fix our car, so while car was in the garage we took the opportunity to get get the train to Buora. The gardens in Thurso was nice and people friendly. Hotel was central but needed updating, and food in the bar for evening and morning breakfast was yummy!

Compact wee town centre with a big Co-op supermarket.
Compact wee town centre with a big Co-op supermarket. People seem genuinely friendly & helpful. A train & bus station, nice beach & Scrabster nearby for ferries to Orkney. Good base for exploring round about & into Sutherland too for the beautiful golden sandy beaches an hour or so away at Armadale, Bettyhill, Torrisdale & Coldbackie. Lots of Stone Age relics to explore too.
A lovely but long journey up by train. Takes about 4 hours from Inverness. Only issues were leaving Thurso by public transport to catch links from Inverness to go further south as just 4 trains a day & nothing after 4.28pm weekdays. No buses seemed to leave Thurso for Inverness after 11.50. Buses take around 3 1/2 hours to Inverness. Good to book taxis as far in advance as possible as get booked up fairly quickly.
Thurso Bay Holiday resort was one of the best holidays we have had. Location was perfect. Views were amazing and the host was superb. We met her whilst staying there and she is very friendly.
Anyone wishing to visit Thurso or surrounding area, I would highly recommend choosing Thurso Bay Holidays.
We spent 10 days in Scotland across the low and the highlands. Westlea B&B was - by far - the best place we have been to. We had a room overlooking the Orkneys. Rich and plentiful breakfast. Beautiful and spacious bedroom. B&B is run by a very warm and welcoming couple. Definitely recommended.
10 minutes walk from the station a fantastic little find on my travels in Scotland that I will use again Room was very nice food excellent short walk from the hotel to the beach front which is quite something to see at dawn ☀️ I recommend.
We stayed at the Station Hotel on our way back from the Orkney. The location is ideal for an early train. We had a comfortable, spacious family room. We enjoyed a great Brea before we left. Thank you.
The hotel is well placed in the centre of Thurso with plenty of on street parking. Breakfast was self service but very good and the staff were friendly and helpful. WiFi coverage was excellent
