Very modern, comfortable and clean. Great shower temperature and pressure. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. They squeezed us in for dinner with no reservation even though it was very busy. Quality of food was excellent at a reasonable price. Parking was plentiful.

The room was lovely and warm and had everything we needed. We just stayed one night on our way to Orkney and it was good to be able to have dinner downstairs as it was quite cold and we really appreciated our hot breakfast before our ferry ride to Orkney the next morning. We would stay here again.

What guests said about Thurso:

Scored out of 10, guest rating 6.0

The museum and its cafe were excellent.

The museum and its cafe were excellent. The staff were knowledgeable and very keen to assist in any way. The coastline is beautiful with views across the Pentland Firth to Orkney. The bus and train services are good. The buses to John o’Groats provide easy and cheap access. Take your walking boots and hike to view the Duncansby Head lighthouse and the Stacks. Restaurants are few and far between and hotels are in demand so don’t be surprised by the pricing. Choose with care. A town trying hard to keep its head above water after the closure of the Dounrey nuclear power station.

Bigger town than I expected but not a tourist town. For the visitor it is a place to stay then go round the coast to catch the ferry to Orkney. The visitor centre and museum is a great place to spend some time exploring.

A great place to be based to explore the surrounding area.

A great place to be based to explore the surrounding area. If you speak to Liz at Pentland Lodge House, she has devised some excellent walking routes and prepared information sheets to go with them. There is more to see and do than meets the eye and lovely places to eat too. I have visited Thurso many times and have enjoyed nice meals in the Red Herring, the Park Hotel, Y-Not, and the Haven, to name a few. Good charity shops too, if you like a mooch.

Thurso is a small Scottish town on the coast, it's very remote and pretty small, so if you like that kind of thing then you'll love it. I imagine it might be a tad boring if you are young, but it's got everything you need, a decent size Tesco, numerous take aways to choose from, pubs, restaurants etc, as I say all you need.

Thurso is a beautiful wee town.

Thurso is a beautiful wee town. Our journey up from Glasgow was great, even though it chucked it down raining from the moment we left to travel up. The sun came out on the day we left to go home, and the beauty of this part of ouur beautiful country was on show to the fullest. The roads in and out of Thurso are amazing. Every corner has a beautiful surprise waitng for you. The views are spectacular. We were about 30mins or so from John O'Groats, & the journey there is worth it. The people we interacted with were so friendly. They could tell we weren't local & went out their way to help us. The streets looked really clean and tidy. We even found what might actually be the smallest Halfords we've ever seen!! 😆 I'll definitely be coming back up on my Harley to ride the NC500 section. I'll definitely be stopping off for a few days here.

T's cafe and Caithness Cuisine were my favourite places for dinner. The Co-op is around the corner and Lidl a 10 minute walk along the seafront. The bus to John O'Groats is outside the Royal Bank of Scotland and only costs £2 each way. There's a lovely parkrun on Saturday morning next to the leisure centre.

The Pentland Hotel was traditional, comfortable and friendly with very good service and tasty evening meals. The staff were first class and my room was quiet, spotlessly clean and very well equipped. In short, my stay was enjoyable and extremely good value for money.
