The Smugglers Hostel, hotel in Tomintoul

Located in Tomintoul, 26 miles from Balmoral Castle, The Smugglers Hostel has accommodations with a garden, free private parking and a shared lounge.

A fantastic and well equipped hostel which had plenty of space for our large family holiday (8 adults/8 children). The hostel was cleaned to a really high standard and was lovely and warm within a few minutes of turning up the radiators. While we didn't meet our host due to it being a community run hostel, all the information about our check in was provided well in advance to ensure a seamless arrival and check out. We will definitely consider booking again when we are next exploring the Highlands!

Gordon House, hotel in Tomintoul

A good location for a relaxing holiday in Tomintoul, Gordon House is a bed and breakfast surrounded by views of the garden.

Amazing hospitality, it was like being part of the family for a day. There was a whisky waiting for me on arrival and I was invited into the garden for pimms!! Secure place for my cycle too. Host did me a full three course dinner with drinks and cheeseboard for a very reasonable charge, and they were full of helpful information and good conversation. All B&Bs should be like this!!

Lindas Retreats Self catering accommodation 1 bedroom cottage or 3 bedroom House, hotel in Tomintoul

Offering garden views, Lindas Retreats Self catering accommodation 1 bedroom cottage or 3 bedroom House in Tomintoul features accommodations, a garden, and barbecue facilities.

Beautiful location, facing an expanse of highland hills from the terrace. It was lovely watching the birds in the backyard with a glass of wine. Very quiet and calm little town, with a few nice restaurants, a small store and a well-stocked whisky store. Fully equipped kitchen, comfy bed, and spacious apartment made it a very nice stay (despite the characteristic wet Scottish weather!)

What a lovely place to stay! Thank you for being so welcoming What made this place stand out were the owners - it's the little things like knowing our names (in fact all the guest names), taking time to answer questions about the area and showing a genuine warmth for your guests. Even at the height of summer, be prepared with your layered wind and waterproofs. As long as you have the correct clothing, the fine views to the Cairngorms and village walks can be enjoyed fully. There is plenty of bird life to view. The gift shop and clock restaurant are well appointed and worth patronising.

    Friendly village.

Friendly village. Lovely cafes and a wonderful gift shop Spendrift. I did some Christmas shopping there and it was only May!. Best bacon rolls ever at the cafe across the main road from the house. We ate out at the Richmond hotel which is dog friendly and we also had an excellent fish supper from a van which comes on a Tuesday late afternoon. There are lots of lovely walks around the village itself as well as others in the surrounding area which is beautiful . Ideal spot for a relaxing holiday.

Richmond Hotel also did excellent food.

Richmond Hotel also did excellent food. Sadly The Clock Restaurant across the road is not currently open due to Covid restrictions. Having been to Tomintoul three times previously I can highly recommend the available accommodation and the location in general.

We were a group of 4 families and had the best time at the hostel. The communal kitchen/living space was perfect for entertaining all ages. There was also a brilliant garden space too. Tomintoul is a great wee town and has everything you need for a Highland adventure. Great pub, restaurant, a well stocked post office, gift shop, visitor centre and some lovely walks to explore the local area. We were delighted to help some local travellers by drying their clothes in the drying room. was lovely to hear about their adventures too.

The house is very well located, very close to the central square of Tomintoul, with its hotels, brilliant restaurant (the Clockhouse), village store and tourist office. Our family of eight found the house very spacious and comfortable. We also enjoyed the nearby scenic walks on the Glenlivet Estate.

A lovely warm welcome at this cosy hotel. I was up to run The Dramathon. Staff were so friendly, accomodating and helpful, provided me with a packed lunch and even left bath salts in my bathroom on my return from the run. Cosy log fire in the dining room. Meals delicious.
