A classic Georgian main street with a historic priory ruin and replica iron age round house. Two interesting museums and a visitor centre with an excellent cafe. Has been run down but now up-and-coming
Broader area great for a relaxing break, with walks, beaches and nature in abundance. Not for those looking for loads of nearby attractions and stuff to do (other than the above), but the quieter pace, quietness and scenery are all well worth a visit.
Whithorn is a pretty, quiet village steeped in history. The Roundhouse Exhibition and visit to the little Museum and Priory is particularly interesting. The village is a good point to visit the surrounding area: Wigtown with its bookshops, Garlieston with the links to the War and the Isle of Whithorn for the beautiful harbour, to name but a few places besides the many Castles etc. There is only one, weekend bar in Whithorn but, again, there are tea rooms and then some places to eat in nearby villages such as The Pheasant in Sorbie, The Harbour Inn in Garlieston and The Steam Packet on the Isle of Whithorn that also has its own Brewery.
Small town/large village. Selection of small local shops - most day-to-day needs catered for. Rather quiet on a Sunday. Restaurants are a few miles out of town. Excellent Museum and "Round House" in the town centre. One or two fine gardens within a few miles and a delightful coastal village at Island of Whithorn nearby.
