We drove down from London and stayed for 2 nights. It was the perfect get away from the hectic city life. Wigan is beautiful and we really enjoyed the restaurants and cafe. Brought our dog and everywhere was very dog friendly! We went to Alberts Standish for dinner and really enjoyed it especially the mango rum cocktail! Also really enjoyed La Sentidos Loca, a Mexican restaurant. Loved the food and daiquiris, very affordable. Lots of places to walk the dogs and all of the dogs were extremely friendly unlike London. We had him off leash in all the trails we went to! Definitely easier to get around with the car!
Did not get to book in due to being over charged at reception. Even though I showed the receptionist the price I gad booked, it was like talking to a brick wall. I was left with the impression that I was somehow mistaken, the sort of experience that you get from an establishment that is founded on arrogance and not customer service.
A review of Wigan? I'm an ex-northwestener from a nearby rugby league rival town so you're asking a lot. It's hardly a tourist centre and even Wigan Pier remains pretty dismal. The pedestrianised town centre is OK although the paving is looking a bit untidy. And the price of the car parks is ridiculous. It's a nice stroll through Mesnes Park in the town centre though. We were in the area for a wedding and the fact we stayed 3 days was due to the available flights and that my usual nearby family bolthole was taken up by the bride-to-be in readiness for the occasion. Non-celebration time was taken up by shopping - a pastime which, from what I experienced, is a huge part of UK life !!!!
We came to Wigan to take part in an ASA registered swimming event. Wigan has an excellent Short course pool (25 m). The city's club "Wigan Best" where excellent host's. We have visited the city on numerous occasions and always been welcomed.
Wigan is a good point of location to use as a central base if you want to travel to surrounding areas. You have lots of public transport available including being really close to two of our great cities - Manchester and Liverpool. I also managed to get a day trip to Cardiff and there were options to easily get as far as York and Leeds for day trips it you wanted to travel north.
Visited the Edge conference centre for the Elvis tribute concert, Ben Portsmouth he was amazing, it was a brill night. The venue however a bit of a let down because there was no draught lager and the bottles were quite pricey £3.60 each so it worked out £7.20 for a pint.
It was a very cozy and comfortable place to stay. A garden area overlooked the place which was definitely a plus point. It is well located, with Tesco extra a post office right around the corner. Also, our work place was just a 5 minutes walk from the property which was very convenient for us. The highlight of the stay was certainly its locking system. But the best part were the hosts who were extremely humble and helpful.
Excellent value for money, my room was huge and comfortable. The bed was comfy and I slept well.My room was at the back of the hotel and it is peaceful and quiet. Breakfast was cooked to order and service was quick and efficient. A lovely place to stay when visiting Wigan.
The setting was lovely with a field of sheep right outside the main entrance. The hotel was situated just off the highway. The staff was very friendly. The restaurant was always open with some options.
The location was good , within walking distance of the Town centre. The check in procedure was easy and all the staff were excellent. The Brocket Arms offers excellent value for money.
3 1/2 hours from home to break up a long journey. Very clean, better mattress than travelodge and in the pub next door is perfect. Price was cheapest around. Will be using again.
Quiet large room with super king sized bed and large bathroom with walk in shower and soft fluffy towels. Ample free parking. Very clean hotel.
it is near Asda, transportation links and at the city centre. to find how to access is like a maze.
The hotel was located away from the main town in a quiet street.
