Bagolyvár Panzió, Hotel Therapia, and Palatinus Boutique Hotel got great room view-related reviews from travelers in Pécs.
Not a crowded city, plenty of things to see. Older waiters and cashiers don't really speak foreign languages, even basic stuff was hard to convey to them, so have that in mind. Younger ones are more fluent in that department.
Many of the sights -- the Csontvary Museum, the Cathedral, in particular, are within easy walking distance of the Fonix hotel, where I stayed. The city is the home of a university, so the streets were filled with students and other young people. My trip was a Wednesday day trip by train from Budapest, so other than the main sights and the fact that the performance in the theatre was a one-man show in Hungarian, which I do not speak, I regret not having planned another, full day. The next time I visit Hungary, I'll spend a couple of days in Pécs; for what I saw whetted my appetite for more.
It's a beautiful city, has great restaurants, and quite a few things to do. There are good places particularly for Italian food and seafood amazingly in this very landlocked city. Plenty of quirky places to visit such as the cat cafe and the mosque church.
Lots of history in this tiny little town. Beautiful historic downtown with great restaurants, bakeries to die for. Roman ruins all over Pecs, St. Istvan tee with beautiful cathedral. Underground Roman ruins. Near by wine country and thermal bath only about 30- 40 min drive. Lively nightlife , very vibrant, very clean city.
Pécs is kind of a secret tip and stands in the shadow of Budapest, although its UNESCO World Heritage Sites alone make it a worth destination. Strolling through the car free streets of the centre, which is given a uniqueness by the inclined topography, trying the many affordable cafés, pubs and restaurants is a good pastime. Try for example the grillterasz nearby Barbakan for its garden and panorama, the Barlang Rock Pub deep inside the hill, and Balkán Bisztró for its great and inventive choice. Watch out for the heritage tram car on display. Visit the preserved small Mosque of Jakováli Hasszán where a traditional drink is served. Walk up the hill (or take the bus/taxi) to the zoo and narrow gauge forrest railway, and crown it with a dinner at the panorama restaurant on top of Hungary's largest building - the TV tower.
Fantastic town lots of history. Do visit the museums and neighborhoods. As this is a regional large town somewhat surprised no mid range hotel chain has properties there. Micky D's..but no larger hotels. Lots of smaller ones with various character which is great also.
