A tree-lined lane leads to Muckross Abbey, a former Franciscan monastery whose cloisters enclose a tall yew tree. Celtic crosses line the cemetery and beyond is the lake, at the centre of which is a tree-lined outcrop, home of the historic Ross Castle. Killarney is a beautiful and charming town. It is a great location for day trips to other areas in County Kerry and County Clare. We did the Ring of Kerry on one day and the Cliffs of Moher on another. We also enjoyed Killarney Falconry, which was an amazing experience. Our favorite restaurant was Porterhouse. Also, Paddy Sheehans was a great place for live Irish music.

Beautiful area with lots to see. If you are going to drive the Ring of Kerry and see all the other sites you need at least 3 days. Also the places like Ross Castle and Muckrose house close up by 430 -5 pm so plan day accordingly

The mountains and lakes of County Kerry are breathtakingly beautiful. Follow the tourist led Ring of Kerry route but go off piste on narrow roads as well to see the true beauty - you won't be disappointed. Plenty of attractions to visit like Muckross House - take a jaunting cart! - and things to do like going to Cragg Cave or taking a boat out to Innisfallen island which is stunning. There are plenty of restaurants and watering holes in Killarney and we weren't disappointed. A bowl of Chowder is a must if you like seafood! Go and enjoy!
