The Rectory is decorated elegantly with homely touches. The location was peaceful. The room had a lovely garden and church outlook. Our delicious Breakfast was served in a lovely dining room looking out onto the garden. We would have loved to have stayed longer and we WILL return. This was Irish Hospitality at its best!

Great place to stay if you're looking for a quiet stay in a small traditional village. Located within walking distance of the town. Especially enjoyed the traditional Killeen's pub, which offered entertainment most nights, a very friendly atmosphere, a small grocery store with dry goods, lunch and dinner, and lots of helpful advice. Lunch and dinner is also available at Lukers which serves great food and overlooks the river, the bridge, and the Napoleonic fortress. Great location for people interested in visiting Clonmacnois and a good central location for visiting Athlone and many points in the Republic of Ireland.
It was very picturesque bedside the river Shannon where all the boats were moored, the people were very friendly,The village is very well kept but there was only one restaurant which could do with update of exterior. There was good music six nights a week in Killeens bar and also a brand new bar Fallons which had a very friendly barman Liam and friendly patrons many of whom came from the nearby boats. There are lots of sights for example Clonmacnoise,Shannon Harbour,,Birr Castle and nature trails .Very good restaurants in nearby towns like Birr and Tullamore
Shannonbridge is a small, but pretty, village and was more of a base from which to travel around a bit. We tried to eat in Lukers but were told it would be at least 30 - 40 minutes before we would be able to get a table so had gone to The River Cafe instead which, although less busy, was very good. We ended up eating a couple of times at The River Cafe and, although there was not an extensive evening menu, what we got was lovely. We were served quickly; it was clean, friendly and had a small gift shop to browse around while waiting! (We noticed quite a few people coming in to order pizzas to takeaway, while we were there).
A very small town on a very small river, but if you find yourself there, you could do a lot worse. Luker's Pub has great food and the staff was very willing to accommodate my wife's gluten issues--dinner was excellent! Later, we hit Killeen's--a more traditional Irish pub, and lots of fun. There's a beautifully preserved ancient monastery about 4 miles away that's worth a look--it'll cost you 8 Euros to do so.
At "Lukerˋs" was served a good meal combined with live irish music. Shannonbridge is just a small village along the main street. Itˋs best to visit it by car, because you don´t find public traffic there and walking trails aren´t known in the vicinity.
A good location, near Clonmacnoise - a beautiful place - & Lough Boora where we rented bikes and enjoyed the traffic-free experience, picnicking at the tables provided. A half-hour drive from Athlone. Lots more to see and do in the area than we thought there might be. A good restaurant in the village - Lukers? - very popular with young families, but unfortunately we found it too noisy even before the music started!
