A fascinating blend of cultures. This ancient city has incredible architecture going back centuries, beaches, amazing markets along with a huge number of things to see and do. It is expensive - we could not afford the top end restaurants and most of the exhibits charge entry. Drive out of the city for even more.... Acco or Acre in English is a very old town dating from Canaanite times. It became the second capital of the Crusader kingdom (after Jerusalem) and was heavily fortified. after the crusader defeat by the Mamlukes it was partly destroyed, but was revived by the Ottomans, expanded and further fortified. It resisted Napoleon's siege and was no conquered. Dotted with historic sites, you become transported into Medieval times. Serious conservation efforts are apparent but hampered by budgetary constraints.
