We stayed a brief 2 nights in Jaipur the perfect length to stay to see the highlights and get out as it's very large and busy. The only downfall was that we didn't get to stay longer at the fantastic Pearl Palace Heritage Hotel. Normally not a tour type couple we decided to take the day long tour the hotel offered and get the everything done in a day which was perfect. We met some wonderful people and saw most things on our list at once. There was the usual upsell at the carpet and woodblock factories and the expensive tourist restaurant for lunch but otherwise it was good.
Getting around was easy, we used a tuk tuk all the time. Loved the colours of Jaipur, enjoyed feeding the cows while waiting for the sound and light show, in early evening you can by greens from a cart near the City Palace to feed them. We ate at our hotel but did enjoy a Lassi from the Lassiwaller recommended by our driver. Loved the City Palace, The Fort and the outdoor observatory was interesting. Great little market shops but look carefully at what you are buying/paying.
The Literature Festival which takes place over 5 days in late January each year is a wonderful event with writers of fiction and nonfiction from all over the world. There are many other festivals through the year for kite flying, music and puppetry. It is worth looking in advance. The city is not a major cosmopolitan centre and you will see poverty and well as much dirt and rubbish lining every street. It is easy to get around as every man and his dog wants you to use his tuk tuk. However beware the tourist price which is often 2-3 times the cost of an air-conditioned Uber car. Also beware the driver who offers you a "special price" as it seems to include visits to his brother's fabric store or his uncle's gem stone workshop with much subtle pressure to buy. There are a number of wonderful monuments to see in the city; all charge an entrance fee (of 400-500 rupees for foreign tourist). If you plan to visit several it is worth getting a composite ticket (1000 rupees) which is valid for 2 days and allows entry to eight different sites. A pocket full of coins is a fun way to share your home country with the kids - and less harmful to their teeth than sweets. If you plan a 1-2 day side trip to Agra - remember it is closed on Fridays!
The highlight was Elefunstastic. It was awesome. I would definitely recommend. It in the Elephant village. The owner is Rahul, he is awesome. This was our second time going there. Be careful, there are lot of imitation people there, but ask for Rahul place. WE got to feed the elephants, bathe them, ride on them. It was awesome. I loved city palace and the amer fort. Overall, this is my 3rd time in jaipur and i love it.
As always, a delight for travelers who enjoy a bit of history, food, culture and shopping. Jaipur is the culmination all these. Must visit places - Amber, Nahargarh & Jaigarh fort. Take the heritage walk. Must try - Street food, shopping in and around Pink city & Balloon ride (SkyWaltz)
We visited Jaipur for the Jaipur Literature Festival (5 days) and stayed 10 nights. No hetic schedule to see sights. We came across a tuk tuk driver who was a local, could speak English and took us to places in and around Jaipur which were out of the ordinary. It made our trip. It needs to be remembered that if you wish to shop you are taken only to those he knows and that was fine by us. When we were out with the tuk tuk driver we didn't eat and not that we avoided it but we weren't hungry, it appreared breakfast at the hotel was enough or was it that we were enjoying ourselves so much.
All of the rooms are unique and equally sumptuous in their aesthetics and facilities. The place is truly a palace, and the staff made us feel incredibly welcome in what still feels like a home for royalty. I would highly recommend a visit. We will be staying again.
Hotel was super! Rooftop restaurant had the best food and the whole environment was fantastic. We shopped many gifts from the hotel stores. All staff was super friendly, polite and helpful. Would definitely go again and recommend it.
