Hotel in Akureyri
Featuring panoramic views of the scenic nature surroundings, Hotel Kjarnalundur is 3.1 mi from central Akureyri and just 1.2 mi from the Akureyri Airport. It offers an on-site restaurant. Most beautiful place for people in love with nature and silence; extremely nice and helpful staff, tasty and great selection for breakfast. Of course it isn't a place for party people, but since most of hotels aims for them, I would see Kjarnalundur brave in suiting mindful guests.

This place really is the gem of the north of Iceland. I regret only making a one night stay here and wish we could have stayed 2-3 days here. So much to see and so many places to eat. We will back next year for sure!
Akureyri is wonderful throughout the year. It has a beautiful botanical garden great museums, pools and one can explore a lot more around the city. There are several nice restaurants in the city and outside.
Akureyri is perfect place to explore the north, but the city itself is beautiful with the colorful houses and the botanical garden. The accommodation has a balcony, which is perfect to watch the northern lights.
Akureyri is a compact, pretty town with great restaurants. The surrounding area is beautiful with the sea and mountains. Day trips to waterfalls, lava fields, a large lake, and incredible views. Great hiking.
Akureyri is a great small city with many museums, a beautiful botanical garden, shopping, and access to many activities such as whale watching tours. We liked it much better than Reykjavik and can't wait until they finish their international airport, so we can fly directly there!
We were mostly passing through. We planned to do whale watching out of husavik, but forgot the plan and did it out of Akureyri -- probably because we were tired and threw the trip together somewhat haphazardly. We did see a whale. It was pretty cool. We only saw the back, the tail, and blow spray, but it's still not something you're going to see every day. And it's kind of crazy that these giant things are just swimming underneath you. The town is quaint. Food options were good, but like most (all?) of Iceland, crazy expensive. 2-3 times what I might expect to spend other trips. Really quite remarkable how expensive the food is. The vibe seemed vaguely like a small town on Lake Superior of Lake Michigan in the US. It's not a bad jumping off point for other points of interest within an hour or two from there. Hotel room availability was better than elsewhere in area. I found the landscape around the north phenomenal. Some of my favorite driving was within an hour of Akureyri in both directions. If your are heading towards or coming from the North / East parts of the country I suggest you skip the tunnel. The tunnel costs $10, and it only saves you 10-15 minutes, and the scenery on the "long" way felt well worth it. When you come in towards Akureyri from the North (bypassing the tunnel) there is a point where you come off the top of the hill, and look down on to the fjord, and it was amazing. I can still picture it. The culture center had some interesting art on display, and it provides a good public bathroom location. Overall, cute little town, not sure how much there is to do there, but that wasn't our main focus on the trip.
As you can see from photo below the views of the fjord are breath taking. The place is spacious and very clean. Breakfast had good coffee as you overlook the fjord. Bathroom has a nice rain shower and is good sized. Torinn and his wife really made the stay. He was very kind, helpful and extremely interested in our well being without being intrusive. While the hotels is outside of the downtown it is a short scenic ride to downtown. Strong recommendation to stay here and base for day trips.
Hotel is in the best (imo) part of Akureyri - close to several great pubs and restaurants, and some of the major attractions in the city. It's clean and comfy, and close to a paid parking (on the next street). The room was large, and the bathroom is spacious. Their email/online reachout is very thorough, and any issues we had with the mobile key were sorted quickly.
The staff is very nice and there is an extensive breakfast in the morning. The hotel has hot tubs which were relaxing. The hotel is on the periphery of the city and requires a car or public transportation. Parking is not an issue and free to hotel guests. The rooms are spartan but comfortable.
Akureyri
This hotel is in a decent location in Akureyri, it's close to a nice little bookshop that sells coffee, as well as a few other cafes and restaurants, and it's clean and quiet. I stayed over New Year's and even then there wasn't a lot of noise. A fine place to stay.
Room was perfect with an amazing view of the snowy mountains. Reception and bar staff were always really helpful and friendly. The food in the restaurant was amazing, everything tasted great and breakfast downstairs was equally good, with a decent range of vegan and meat options.
