We stopped over in Brindisi for a couple of nights on our way to Monopoli. We loved the local coffee shops where we found staff very helpful; some lovely restaurants eg in Fau, the food was excellent, staff friendly and helpful and a lovely atmosphere; La Locando del porto very tasty food especially the fish dishes and staff were excellent. We enjoyed relaxing at Bettys Cafe by the seafront where staff were really friendly. We had a boat trip one afternoon and our guide was wonderful. Getting around is very easy despite the hills and steps near where we stayed.

Such a beautiful city with lots to see around and great for...
Such a beautiful city with lots to see around and great for wondering around in the streets. Nice promenade for a walk with a number of good restaurants. Restaurant La Nassa is defo worth a visit! Also, a unique town Ostuni is close by and you can get there by train.

Brindisi isn't as full on touristy as other Puglia hot spots...
Brindisi isn't as full on touristy as other Puglia hot spots - we did 2 nights and it was just right. It was much quieter than other places we subsequently visited. We did a boat tour around the harbour and a self guided walking tour of the old town including museums on our only full day there. Saw St George's (of the dragon) mummified hand in a church where its preserved as a religious relic. Went up the sailors monument and on first night had fresh fish second night best steak (probably) I've ever had at Don Angus.

Very pretty town with great waterfront areas, good places to eat and easy to get around on foot. English is widely spoken and locals seemed happy to have us. Not too many tourists. Hotel was fantastic, well run well maintained and perfectly staffed. Clearly used to business/professional guests

It was our first visit to Apuglia.
It was our first visit to Apuglia. Brindisi old town and waterfront was clean, beautiful and interesting. We visited Lecce enjoying Baroche architecture and Roman ruins, and took a fascinating tour to the Trulli town of Alberobello, also visiting Locorotondo and Ostuni en route.
These were lovely places within reach of Brindisi. We had wanted to make a one day visit by train to Taranto, for historic reasons, but couldn't because of a train strike. (Moan, it's so difficult to get a refund of the fare paid online from Trenitalia)

I went to Brindisi after Bari and Lecce at the end of August...
I went to Brindisi after Bari and Lecce at the end of August, and loved the more laid- back vibe of the city, underlined by palm trees on the waterfront and main streets. It doesn't have such well-known sites, but some of the church interiors really reward a visit, and the museum next to the duomo is fantastic if you're even remotely interested in the history of the region (I regretted not having longer than half an hour to spend there).
You can take a ferry across to the monument to sailors, and stroll along to a casual (food truck style) eatery. For casual food, I'd also recommend venturing further along the main waterfront area - try the triangular filled savoury pastries. My favourite restaurant meal in Brindisi was at the Locanda del Porto.
I visited Ostuni from Brindisi, and also the Aragonese Castle. The very helpful people in the tourist office printed out the bus timetable for me - the no 5 bus takes about 20 minutes though it's still a good 20-25 minute walk (with pleasant sea and marina views along the way) to the castle.
When I went to the tourist office, there was a lovely little exhibition upstairs featuring artworks of the Tempio San Giovanni.

The location is perfect, 2mins walk to the harbour and the old town. The Festa Patronale di Brindisi took place while we were there with th lights and fireworks just outside the Hotel!
