Spanning 11 kilometres between the Adriatic Sea and one of the most famous lagoons in the world, Lido is a narrow and long island located just in front of Venice’s Old Town. Beach resorts, hotels and private villas replaced the vegetable gardens 160 years ago that provided tranquil settings for poets and writers like Lord Byron and Thomas Mann.
Probably one of the first beach resorts in the world, its first facility opened in 1857 and soon became a success. Nowadays, it constitutes a peaceful suburb that claims its golden past once a year during the Film Festival, and offers a quieter setting for your accommodation than central Venice.
There are actually three different villages on the island. Lido itself is located in the north, and includes most of the hotels and the Venice Casino. The smaller Malamocco and Alberoni are situated to the centre and south respectively. The sea-facing side of Lido Island is a succession of sandy beaches, mostly belonging to different resorts and hotels.
Gran Viale Santa Maria Elisabetta is the island’s main street, leading from the ‘vaporetto’ water bus pier to the sea. There are buses running on the island, while direct waterbus links to Venice Marco Polo Airport are also available.
Lido is not Venice in the sense we are used to. This is the beach area of the Venetian Lagoon, but the quality of beach holidays is clearly inferior to other places. Therefore, who wants to visit Venice itself must go to another island of the Venice Lagoon. But for a beach holiday it is better to choose another place.
I'm so happy we chose to stay on the Lido Island versus on Venice mainland. When we took the hotel complimentary boat to St Marks, we saw people rolling their luggage through the cobblestone streets, steps and bridges to get to their hotels. Not to mention all the people walking around with the noise, etc. The hotels on Venice looked small, and from what I understand, not a lot have AC. As far as night life on Lido, we walked to a few restaurants only to be turned away because we didn't have reservations when the restaurants were clearly empty. We did find a nice restaurant called Valentino, it was very good and the staff were amazing. We met a staff member from the hotel and he took us to the locals night life. It was so nice, there is not a dumpy area at all on the Lido-Venice, just be sure to make reservations.
Lido is my "go to" summer destination. Beach vibe, friendly locals, many outdoor cafes. 10 minute boat ride into Venice. Easy access to transportation into Murano, Burano, Airport. Wonderful place to come back to after a day of exploring busy Venice.
Loved easy access to Venice by vaparetto but quieter and close to the beach. Many restaurants. Very bike friendly but we also took the frequent buses . Wonderful island to walk around. Would definitely go back!
Easy to get to Lido with water bus. Great to be able to visit Venice, which is unique and splendid but also busy, and go back to Lido with it's calmer tempo and atmosphere. Beautiful buildings, nice small town with shops and restaurants. Great to walk across island to visit the nice beach, tan and have a swim in the clear water. Next time we will stay longer on Lido, and explore more of the island.
-Feels like you're visiting the East Hamptons of Italy, it's slightly out of the way, but once you arrive it's a lot more quiet, more residential/local, and more relaxed. There's no crowds, the workers prefer serving locals, and a lot more chill. Beautiful island.
Best location - the beach is just across the street. Great breakfast - in addition to traditional Italian breakfast, there are vegetables and Camembert. Nice spacious room with a cute little balcony and good a/c. Friendly helping staff (especially Mika and Romeo) The boutique hotel has very good vibes, we truly enjoyed staying there. We chose this hotel based on Booking reviews but in reality it even exceeded our expectations. Highly recommended.
A consistently excellent 5 star hotel, on the Lido away from the tourist crowds of downtown Venice but still close enough to visit easily, a great base for the Biennale. Mix with Italian families enjoying the beach and a spritz or two, best of all, hire a cabana on the beach, it’s pure class.
We love it! Beautiful, cozy, small authentic hotel next to the beach. Lido is like a paradise, best to rent bikes from the hotel and to explore the island. Personnel in the hotel were very kind and polite. Definitely we will visit again and stay at the same hotel!
Checked-in for 2 nights. I was visiting Venice for the Art Biennale 2022. A Roman friend recommended I stay in Lido island where this hotel is located as this island is calm and close to the shows (1 vaporetto stop from the Giardini; 2 from the Arsenal).
Wonderful location which is near the vaparetto and water taxi station . It has a great restaurant with very attentive staff and fresh well cooked food .Nice swimming pools and it’s a easy walk to the beach . I Would recommend this hotel to anyone .
Beautiful room and great breakfast. The location is just a couple of minutes away from the vaporetto stop and within a walking distance from the beach. There are many eating places very close to the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Free breakfast was great. Staff were very attentive and friendly. Cleaning staff even folded our clothes. Location was excellent too. I Highly recommend this hotel, especially for families who want clean, quiet and rather spacious rooms.
The host family is very nice and welcome. They have given a gift for my daugthers birthday. The beach is very beautiful and close to the hotel. Family room is also big enough.
The hotel was nice looking and clean, really close to the vaporetto as we wanted to have many route options available after visiting Lido.
- Very cozy hotel in a quiet street - Close to waterbus station, shop, restaurants, beach - Nice room, nice balcony - AC worked fine
