Check in was a breeze as was the processing of the ZTL pass needed for parking in the city center. She gave indications on parking and also restaurant choices … all in all a seres of conversation that surely helped us for the next 3 days. Angelo, who took over reception the next day was just as friendly and informative and we enjoyed chatting with him we’ll. Grand Hotel San Lorenzo, Hotel Broletto, and Hotel Leon D'Oro got great room view-related reviews from travelers in Mantova.
A beautiful old town with fantastic typically Italian old style fortified stone buildings. Walking around was fascinating. Unfortunately I wasn’t there long enough to enjoy and appreciate all that Manitova had to offer. I would return to explore more. The hotel was in a vehicle restricted area of the old town. I wouldn’t have dinner in the hotel as they weren’t accommodating to my parking requests! Loads of nice looking restaurants and bar/cafes in that area. Almost spoilt for choice. I had dinner in Scaravelli Restaurant in the Piazza delle Eribe, which was good and value for money.
This is a great location for a solo traveler as people are helpful . Make a point to talk to the docents as they are eager to inform. Particularly helpful was the docent at Mantegna’s house. Wear comfortable shoes as the cobble stones are actual river rocks on most of the piazzas. A pair of thick soled shoes help. Also, take an hour boat ride with Andes for 10€. It’s a nice way to understand how Mantova engineered the Mincio River to improve it’s economic power. TAnd of course, try all the food and pastries, it’s a just delicious
The Palazzo Te is one of the most amazing spaces I have seen in Italy--and I have been travelling in Italy for 40+ years although I only just now made it to the Palazzo Te. The rest of the town is very nice, too, and merits perhaps a two night stay (I only had one). We had dinner in the square in front of the Ducal Palace on a Saturday night--when the downtown was mobbed with residents and tourists enjoying a nice Spring night. It was very pleasant. But the Palazzo Te will blow you away--guaranteed!
Art history major, so I’m bound to love the Mantegna and Alberti works that Mantova is justly known for, however the city itself has charm and a genuine vitality that makes it a great destination even if you never saw a single fresco. Coincident with my visit was an installation of sculptures in the river, so Mantova is reminding us that art has a civic role to this day. I hope to come back, as my less than 24 hours didn’t do it justice. Had dinner at “Bar” on Piazza della Herbe and food was outstanding with a lovely staff. Also grabbed a quick and delicious lunch at Pizzeria da Ketty.
Mantova is magical and well worth visiting. Our highlights were the squares with incredible architecture and the ambience/ atmosphere which is laid back and calm, street cafes, wonderful food and the Mantovian pride in local produce. Palazzo Ducale and Castell St Andrea Basillica, the Rotunda stood out for us, but there are so many amazing buildings and frescoes. Boat trip is well worth the 10 euro charge, fantastic views of the skyline and of wildlife, herons, cormorants, swans, lotus flowers. Just lovely sitting out and people watching amongst incredible architecture and atmosphere, Mantova is its own world and well worth a visit.
Mantova is an incredible city. Do not hesitate one second even if it seems a bit "off road" compared to usual destination. It is worth every penny: every museum is full of wonders, the atmosphere in the center is lovely, the food delicious. Do not miss out!
The hotel was perfect for what we needed: the room was ample with a minimalist decor, the AC perfect and quiet, the bed very comfortable, the towels large and fluffy, the breakfast excellent despite Covid restrictions (scrambled eggs in Italy - not easy to find). We loved the location, which was mid-way between the center of town (Duomo and Palazzo Ducale) and the Palazzo Te, about a 10-15 minute walk to each. There are three different parking options, one of them free. The staff was friendly and attentive.
Mantova
Such a beautifully renovated old palazzo with totally fresh interiors and modern bathrooms. Absolutely loved our stay. Wish we could stay longer! mantica is wonderful and this is perfectly located in between Centro and Palazzo Te. The rooms on the first floor are absolutely stunning. Oh and the water pressure is heavenly! Fast internet. just a dream! We loved staying here and will be back!
Mantova
The location is perfect, the apartment beautiful, new and extremely nice and elegant. Walking distance from everywhere, the parking is truly just around the corner. Getting to the apartment right in the middle of old town is easy and much less convoluted than many other cities in the area. Perfect to spend the night on the way further south. Loved Mantova, will be back.
Mantova
Hotel staff couldn’t have been more helpful. During check in I realized I had left a small travel bag in the taxi. The receptionist got me in touch with the taxi company who contacted drivers and my bag was returned to me within 30 minutes. Such extraordinary assistance is to be applauded. Thank you! Restaurant has great cappuccino as well!
The staff is really kind and always ready to help. The premises are spacious, with a lovely garden in the middle. Breakfast is very good with sweet and savoury options. The location was perfect for me, just across the street from the train station. Even so, my toom was quiet. Will stay again, if I'm ever back to Mantova
Mantova
The apartment was immaculate - very clean, comfortable and so much attention to detail. Ines was welcoming and gave me a map and information (restaurant recommendations etc) about Mantova. She left biscuits, coffee, tea, milk, water, crackers, butter and jam. It made me feel very welcome. I highly recommend Serenella 2.
The hotel is so close to Palazzo Ducale, practically on the doorstep of the Rotunda and not too long a walk away from Palazzo Te either. We spent very little time in the room but it was a super comfy spot to come back to at the end of the day. The room was very spacious and the air conditioning saved us in the summer heat.
Mantova
Lovely appartement very well located in Mantova! It was the only appartement during our family trip to really accomodate 5 person properly: the sofa bed was ready when we arrived, with the sheets and everything. The appartement was super clean, bed sheed and towels, everything was perfect.
We stayed at the hotel for work meetings and to be able to be central for the evenings. The hotel was excellent, the staff especially helpful, and the location was fantastic. We will definitely try to book the same hotel for the same event next year
