The surrounding area also produces olive oil, and fine examples can be purchased in shops of hillside La Pigna, the medieval part of town accessible only by stone steps.
Atop the hill, the Regina Elena Gardens provide lovely views down to the sandy beach and yacht-lined marina. Whale watching and diving trips depart from the harbour, and a few streets away is Villa Nobel, where Alfred Nobel died. A cycle path runs nearby and continues along the Ligurian coast all the way to Genoa, following the route of the old train tracks.
The modern tracks are underground and the train station is surrounded by the Sanremo accommodation on Booking.com, ranging from cheap apartments and guest houses to 5-star hotels.
