Hachijo
SEADIVE Dormitory offers accommodations in Hachijo. Rooms are fitted with a shared bathroom. There is a shared kitchen at the property. Excellent location for snorkeling, just 5mins walk from the best place to see turtles - we saw some every day! It was great to relax out front on the hammocks and chairs, so peaceful, just the sound of the sea. The dorm beds were like large enclosed wooden bunks, enough space to sit up and get changed inside. The staff was relaxed and friendly and drove us to the supermarket in the evening.

GUEST HOUSE SASAOSOU has air-conditioned accommodations in Mitsune. Among the facilities at this property are a shared kitchen and a shared lounge, along with free WiFi throughout the property. The room was clean and I really liked very comfortable Futon. Both bathroom and shower room were very clean. Owner (who knows sign language!) was very friendly. Very warm hospitality. Also the optional breakfast was so delicious! I would strongly recommend you to stay this hotel.
Hachijo is a beautiful island with lots of natural beauty. There are several cool restaurants to eat and drink. I particularly liked hiking up the two mountains and soaking in the Uramigataki onsen/hot spring. I strongly suggest driving/hiring a driver as taking taxis everywhere isn't particularly convenient.
After barely scratching the surface of Tokyo with some sightseeings in the Asakusa, Meguro and Shinagawa districts, I flew into Hachijō-jima, a remote volcanic island of the Izu archipelago (伊豆諸島) off of Philippine Sea. My original plan for island hopping from Hachijō-jima to the rare dual caldera volcanic island Aogashima (青ヶ島) had to change the last minute due to unpredictable weather. Hachijō-jima is close to Tokyo by air and is rich in nature. It really is quite surreal to be in a Hawaii-esque tropicana, yet still within the governmental confines of the world's largest metropolis. Definitely a nice change of pace and to experience a really unique side of Tokyo: its volcanic landscape, locally-produced food and liquor, and the genuine warmth and island hospitality of its people.
Transport is sketchy. If you have a license, rental car is best. But there are buses, which if you’re disciplined, should help you get around part of the island. Cycling is possible, but I think you’d need to be quite fit. Island is beautifully clean. Hot springs and beautiful views. Food is fresh and varied, they bring over fruits and stuff from the mainland. Shima Sushi is interesting and tasty.
It's a bit hard to get around without a car, but definitely doable! I don't scuba dive so I was worried I wouldn't have a lot to do, but in the end I was able to keep myself busy every day with hiking, swimming, and hot springs!
