It’s a ski and snow lover paradise.

It’s a ski and snow lover paradise. A small town with not so much city vibe, but best for snow or ski experience. It’s the idyllic charm that stands out for me. Everything u need for snow and ski experience is available there, for rent or to buy.

Snow was great, the town was very cute. Most of all, it wasn't that busy and lift have good space. Plenty of slops to choose from, and great restaurants, shops to go around after ski. Especially onsen was one of the great thing to add after the ski!

Hakuba is great and very welcoming.

Hakuba is great and very welcoming. The people and food are amazing. The skiing was great given the snow levels were lower than normal. The only thing to keep in mind is the bus service, while convenient can get crowded and does not run as much as it maybe should. A car would definitely be a great asset to have.

    Very busy.

Very busy. Lots of slopes to choose from each day, but unless you have a personal driver as part of your accommodation, the shuttles can be full. Taxis are hard to get and not cheap. Seems to be popular with all the snow boarders. Prefer Myoko for beginners and the small town feel. My experience may have been different if there had of been a big dump of snow, travelled for 7 days from 29 January to 5 February and the conditions were icey. Top tip - select accommodation where they will shuttle you to the mountain you choose each day (eg snowlines lodge). Had a fantastic time, love skiing in Japan and will be back to try somewhere else next time!!

If skiers want to ski in traditional Japanese ski resort...

If skiers want to ski in traditional Japanese ski resort where they can become immersed in the local culture and scarcely see another tourist and avoid queues for ski lifts then please do some dilligent research first. Hakuba is like Bali with snow. Japan has up to 500 ski resorts with cheap lift tickets and affordable Japanese food eating choices and traditional accommodation options nearby. Hakuba and 3-4 other Japanese ski resorts have been invaded by a bazillion Australians and prices for most things are higher there and the local environment feels like a suburb of Anglo Australia. The smaller downhill ski locations of Sanosaka and Norikura in Hakuba valley offer some respite from this phenomena and the Hakuba Olympic Cross country ski centre near Sanosaka ski resort is very good for Nordic skiing away from the busy ski resorts . The mountains and the Valley in Hakuba valley are beautiful and spectacular. I won’t mention where I plan to ski in Japan in the future but the places I am considering are those that most Australians have never heard of!

Very friendly staff, couldn't be more helpful! Ski drying area was excellent, is only 5mins walk to the Goryu ski field but as it was uphill, took the free shuttle instead. Definitely not a ski in ski out experience, but with the discounted lift passes and rentals, and the easy access to Goryu/Hakuba 47 it was A great spot nonetheless. Had an excellent dinner at the hotel, it was amazing! Breakfast was a mix of traditional Japanese and Western, never went hungry. If we go back to Hakuba would definitely stay again.

The house is in a great location. Close to echoland area, bus stop for ski resorts, and a great onsen a three minute walk away. Our room was fantastic with four beds and a lounge area with a kotatsu table that was super cozy after a day on the slopes.I could tell the owners like antiques because the house was very nicely decorated with them. The breakfast and dinner at the house was amazing! Home cooked, delicious and filling.

Great value villa with everything you could want as a sole traveller. Spacious and warm with good ensuite facilities. The inclusion of a western-style bed in a more traditional Japanese villa was a nice touch and ensured I remained well rested throughout my week long stay. Lodge Villa Happo is well located with Happo Bus Terminal, Lawson Convenience Store, Happo-one Ski Resort and Hakuba village all a short distance away.

Beautiful hotel decorated in French style with great customer service. We were driven to and from the Gondola at Happo One every day and our skis and boots were always waiting for us. The staff were friendly and helpful and good restaurants were within walking distance. The breakfast was filling with a good range of options and our suite had a large spa bath that was great to enjoy every afternoon after skiing.

There is a The NorthFace flagship store, family restaurant, and 7-11 convenient store near the station. The hotel is cozy and clean. Bed is very comfy. Breakfast is simple but delicious. The owner is very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the conversation with him, and will definitely visit again!

Naomi picked us up from Kamishiro station which was very helpful and also dropped us at the bus stop on our check-out day. The breakfast and dinner are great. Koki-san and Naomi-san are very friendly and happy to help us if we have any questions. There is a bus stop in front of the hotel that can drop us into Goryu ski resort. If you want to go to the other resorts, you need to take another bus.

Paul was SO accommodating - willing to give us a ride into town, to the slopes, to the place to ship our gear, etc. Customer service could not be beat. The breakfast was more than I was expecting - a daily free hot breakfast of eggs, meat, toast, etc. I highly recommend it! It was a very short walk to the ski lift for Happo One - easy to get on the slopes.
