The private bath in the room was amazing and we used it many times during our short one-night stay. The facility was huge with sprawling, beautiful forest views and even a koi pond! There were many free refreshments provided during our stay like alcoholic / soft drinks, tea / coffee in a dedicated room open all times, ice cream, ramen, etc.

Beautiful and quiet location, worthy to give it a couple of nights to really settle in, experience mountain life, enjoy nice walks in the nature around. Great traditional restaurant and teahouse options. Give time to interact with the locals who run their business here, great to slow down. I found authentic and very nice people, creative and who promote tradition in this area. I loved every detail in the hostel, the mountain style, the jackets and the free authentic onsen. The staff was very helpful, kind and nice, made me feel at home. Thanks a lot for all your tips and the good talks! If you want to do more and feel like exploring, you can take the bus to Shuzenji city, great real and local options for restaurants, local shopping mall...only for adventure travelers ;) and then with the train, you can go to Mishima for example, is a nice big city to experience real japanese life, restaurants and the beautiful Shrine. Bonus, you can see Fuji san from the train If the day is clear!

Izu had so much to see, the views and slower pace was a great way to see Japan without the crowds. Getting around to see these places can be difficult without your own car, but is manageable using the local buses, trains and taxis. The parks are well managed and breathtaking.

There's a lot to explore in Izu.

There's a lot to explore in Izu. There are a few trails in the area and you can just walk around and see where they take you. There are a number of quaint little shops selling knick-knacks, lunch, ice cream, pastries, etc. I even found a nice lady who cut my hair for 1000 yen. There are some Shinto temples in the area, and one shrine (Hie I think?) has some really giant old growth trees on its grounds. There are also some nice little footbaths around the town, which was super cool.

I love visiting Izu hanto, recommend always picking up a car from Atami (Orix or Nissan) and drive down route 135 to Kawazu or Shimoda. Stop at Mount Omuro, or Atagawa Banana & Crocodile park with red panda's, enjoy Shimoda seafood and Commodore M. Perry Black Street and it's history. Drive up the west coast route 135 to see AMAZING views of Fuji-san over the sea and stop at Toi or Dogashima for cave boat trips or diving or views laong the rocky coast.

Izu is a wonderful varied destination with great food ,beaches and outdoor things to do ,It is a good place to go when you need a break from thee heat and crowds of summer in Japan.I very much recommend visiting Terrace Orange in Toi..It's a unique building built as both a tsunami refuge and community center with a lovely cafe and a restaurant with some of the freshest and nicest food on our trip .The architecture is fabulous and there is even a footbath acing the sea.

We had 3 nights here to explore Izu Peninsula. Our room was spacious with a sea view. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We arranged to have dinner on one night and breakfast each day. These were authentic Japanese meals and were stunning. A real treat! There is an outdoor tub you can fill with fresh hot water for an outdoor soak. We also found and amazing natural hot pool further south - Sawada Park open air bath. Worth a visit. It took us a couple of nights to adjust to futon sleeping because we are soft westerners.

This is a Japanese style hotel, and all facilities are bit old, no elevator as well, but this hotel looks very nice, especially their beautiful garden area. All staffs are very friendly, and their hot tub is pretty awesome too. It can let me totally relaxed and enjoyed. The location is far from the center of Izu, but you can still walk around the park, the ocean and the restaurant too. I like this area because of their quiet, beautiful and original too.

The hostel is great, they had all the facilities available and the private room we stayed at was just what we needed. Shuzenji Onsen is a tiny town but really lovely, I enjoyed exploring the Izu peninsula as well as the neighbouring rice fields and hills. Jamie was super helpful and friendly and made our journey easy with all the tips. If you're going to Shuzenji Onsen I recommend this accommodation.
