Kusatsu onsen Futabaya offers accommodations in Kusatsu. Free private parking is available on site. From the moment I pulled up on motorcycle, greeted cheerfully by the owner/manager who was helpful getting the bike parked securely. He's obviously very skilled in exceeding guest expectations every step of the way. (great english also, was helpful for local restaurant and hot spring suggestions.) Before I even arrived at the room, the perfect review was already writing itself. The room itself (an upgrade to double was very nice to spread out a bit) was immaculate condition, everything feels new and fresh. Quiet and comfortable bed, combined with nearby hot springs led to a deep comfortable sleep.

The Yubatake area is picturesque and has many nearby shops with Japanese treats you can take out and eat/drink while sitting and enjoying the ambiance of Yubatake. Lots of traditional Japanese buildings, walkable streets with shops selling souvenirs and Japanese treats. Be sure to take the 10min walk from Yubatake thru Sainokawahara Koen (Park) to the large outdoor hot spring bath Sainokawhara Rotenburo.
The iconic attraction of kusatsu are the hot springs. I have tried various ones, Kusatsu hot springs are relaxing and the the feeling is wonderful. The food in the town is delicious, I tried Udon with Tempura in some places, it was just delicious. Don’t forget to try the onsen tamago as a speciality of the town.
1 night and 2 days are enough for Kusatsu onsen village. But this i am recommending when in my case i could have reached my home in Tokyo next day late evening rather than spending 2 nights and 3 days in Kusatsu, however pleaase know that for first half day we covered Kairuzawa Prince shopping plaza & Shirato falls and reached Kusatsu by 3PM. But still first half day then night stay and next day till late evening is enough.
Kusatsu is a 4 hour trip from Tokyo with 5 Transportation changes and it was so worth it! (Going back was only 2 hours) First time to experience an Onsen and Kusatsu is the best place to be! I understand why Japanese People love this. It's so addicting! The Yumomi Show is a must! It's only Y600. Have a go for the Yumomi Activity too! Try the Onsen Manju! It's so yummy!
Everything is in close quarters so you can easily get everywhere. Not all of their main roads getting to the city are open, which was frustrating as many maps took us to roads closed for winter. The onsens are amazing. The food is amazing. It is a wealth of culture here. The musical road is enchanting.
Great Onsen village, absolutely stunning during the autumn because of the colourful leaves. Only go there if you like cold weather There are also a lot of very good restaurants although they can be overpriced.

The staffs were really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the onsen, both public and private ones. The hotel is located a couple of minutes away from Yubatake, and one of the shrines visitors usually go to is right beside of the hotel. To get there is a cute stroll, and it was great for a morning walk. We had a problem with toilet in our room, but when we talked to the staff, he addressed it right away. We enjoyed the experience of staying here!

- Exceptional owner/staff, they were flexible and ready to help - We got a separate 2-storey annexe which was good in the coronavirus times as well as for children being able to enjoy without worrying about disturbing others. - Has a big kitchen with amenities. Making breakfast etc. was easy. - Gaming available. We played Contra. - Private and public onsen both were good. - Near ski resort and main Kusatsu area by car.

A charming traditional Japanese hotel, location is great, right next to the park, about 15-20mins, depends on your walking speed on foot to the bus station, love the onsen, didn’t have to use the en-suite shower at all, it was snowing quite heavily and it was so nice to be in the outdoor onsen at the time; the staffs are very polite, courteous and attentive, shuttle service is much appreciated!
Kusatsu
I really enjoyed the private onsens. There were two, one a bit hotter than the other. I stayed two nights and was able to try both. I felt the price for the room was good value. The room was quiet, which I appreciated. Ryokan Tamura was a comfortable and relaxing place to stay.
