Hot spring baths at Toya Kanko Hotel are located in a cave, or indoors and outdoors offering panoramic lake views. Got the lake view room and the view was amazing - clear view of the lake and Mount Yotei in the background. Dinner and breakfast were provided. Dinner was a huge spread of Japanese cuisine with a little Western. Breakfast was a buffet style spread, with an emphasis on Japanese appetisers. Highlight for me was the unsweetened red tea. Onsen was also awesome, with an outdoor bath with some view of the outside.

Great place to relax, enjoy the nature, the fireworks, the onsen atmosphere. Everything was calm, especially during the working week, rent a bike, do the 40km around the lake - it really is worth it. Food options are vast, sightseeings are plentiful, great place for having a time out of hectic cities.
It is just a little town. However, there are shops for nearly everything we need. It is excellent for taking a romantic walk at the seaside after dinner, or having a coffee break in a little warm cafe which is having a big window for enjoying the snowfall outside.
Lake Toya attracts a lot of people in the summer time but it is also very nice in the winter for a 2-3 day stay. The view of the snow covered volcanoes around the lake is stunning as is the one from the top of Mt. Usu, easily accessible from Toyako. There is also something to be said for the feeling of soaking in a hotspring bath after a day in the cold of winter.
We have visited Lake toya just in time to watch the amazing fireworks on October 31 (available from October 1st til 31st). Weather was very cooling. Quite & nice place. Easy to reach by bus from Noboribetsu. Went to hot spring at a hotel. Rate was rather expensive but we have enjoyed it.
Astoundingly beautiful area! You could quite easily sit there and just watch the day go by. There’s also a wide range of shops and restaurants near by too as it’s like a little resort area. The area is chocked full of natural Onsens due to the volcanic activity in the area. There is also a fireworks display that occurs each night and you can watch from a local ferry on the lake.
Lake Toya was created with the volcanic activities in the surrounding area. The island in the middle is a must to visit. There are lovely tracks in on the island for walks through the pine forests with grounds lined with moss and mushrooms as we went during autumn time.
Lake Toya
Even though size of the property are small, but its just nice to fit 4 adult and 2 children. Some of us never try tatami ( Japanese traditional mattress) , and they experienced it. There is people can't sleep on tatami and there is normal western bed for us. In this lodge they have private sauna !!! Shower room design are perfect . Provided washing machine and dryer its a plus ! If i have chance to come back Lake Toya, i will come back to stay at this lodge again.
Lake Toya
The location was right at the lake, view on the lake with the islands and the fireworks. The traditional breakfast was amazing. The Japanese room was wonderful. And it's true what some reviews say: it seems a little outdated. But that doesn't change the fact that it's still a wonderful hotel. Some walls of the onsen seemed a bit mouldy. But this was my first onsen, so I don't know if that's normal.
Lake Toya
- superb view from the room as it’s directly in front of Lake Toya - hotspring is amazing, esp the one on the top floor which offers an interrupted view of Lake Toya, a decent shampoo bar and skincare products are provided, heaven for ladies! - great location, just few steps walk to the lakeside - nice dinner and breakfast with a great variety of choices
Lake Toya
The hosts were amazing. Very welcoming and warm and very receptive to our little requests. Took us to each and every room to orientate us. The breakfast is amazing too, both western and japanese. The view from our houses and breskfast area is breathtaking. We wake up to Lake Toya in the morning. Environment is really tranquil.
Lake Toya
Modern nice hotel. I guess the high price only pay for 1) the view of Lake Toya where you can see firework from your room (but I guess every hotel around there can too) 2) Nice outdoor onsen with lake Toya paronama view 3) the comfortable room, it has quite a space 4) 2 sets of Japanese outfit that you can wear and take pics
