Hotel in Nozawa Onsen
Just a 4-minute walk from the main gondola station in Nozawa Onsen, Elizabeth is a cozy privately owned accommodations with a beautiful garden. WOW!! We have many many international trips and our stay at Elizabeth is near the top of our list! The Ms. Shusen and her staff were amazingly friendly, spoke perfect English and were truly there to ensure that the guests were comfortable. They took care of all dinner reservations, lift ticket purchases and were always looking to see how they could better assist us. The excellent service started the moment we arrived and continued throughout our stay. The hotel was cozy and comfortable...the staff always had a warm fire going when we returned from skiing. The hotel is just a 5 minute walk to the BRAND NEW 10-person gondola (up the hill) and just 5-10 minutes (down the hill) to all of the restaurants on the main street. There are other ways to access the mountain but the new mountain is the best. The older gondola is a very trick up-hill walk and then requires use of the "travelator" which is a bizarre ramp-like escalator that is over a quarter mile long. The town offers a dozen public onsens and Hotel Elizabeth has a couple just two minutes away. Nozawa onsen is as close to an "Alps Resort" as we have seen in Japan (main reason we chose it) and the skiing was nothing short of amazing! Highly recommend both the resort and the Hotel Elizabeth if you want to have an amazing experience in the Nagano prefecture!!

Many families visiting Nozawa Onsen loved staying at Elizabeth, Nozawa Grand Hotel, and Hotel Haus St Anton.
Lovely village atmosphere and excellent location to the snow. A bit difficult to get restaurant bookings especially for a big group like ours of 4 adults and 5 kids. Very friendly town with lovely bath houses and great food. Kawahiro Lodge is very traditional and friendly and Mt Dock is superb for executive ski rentals and good coffee!
Nozawa Onsen is a Japanese alpine village, and we enjoyed exploring the village and experiencing some of the culture and local practices, like watching the local residents cooking their vegetables in one of the many "onsens" (hot springs) in the area. We also happened to be in Nozawa Onsen during their famous annual Dosojin Fire Festival, which was an amazing experience! The skiing and snowboarding at the Ski Resort was also excellent.
The runs are a bit too flat at parts and it seems to be an endless changing of chairs to get back to the top. Great for beginners and experts but lacks a bit of intermediate terrain. Great village with loads of food options. The onsens are a must. Perfect for young kids though the ski lessons are not cheap. Take a trip to the snow monkey park!
Nozawa Onsen is an excellent place to ski. It has a huge number of slopes and a great range of difficulty. I have been twice and would return again. It's out favourite mountain in Japan ( we have also been to Madarao and Niseko) .
Location enabled easy access to the snow and the town. Was great to walk around and explore from the hotel as the town is not overly big. The area is hilly and after a snowfall the walk provides another experience. The staff were easily able to answer all our questions and provide local knowledge on where to go and eat. The hotel now has a restaurant which is a good option after a long day.
Good skiing, although apparently the snow wasn't as good as usual this year. Excellent food and good value but make sure you book at least a day ahead for dinner in peak times. The Onsens should be a must as long as you can throw away your inhibitions about public nudity. This is a very Japanese village and provides a great cultural experience as well as great skiing. You should also make sure you go and see the snow monkeys which are only about 30 min drive away.
