We had an amazing stay in Komatagawa bungalow. The place is wonderful, near a lovely river, hidden in the forest. The accomodations were great : the bungalow in itself is very clean, as the bathroom and the toilets. There is a kitchen very well equiped. If you want an immersion in japanese wonderful nature you are in the right place !

Typical Japanese guest house in Chikatsu. The guest is extraordinary, the dinner was really tasty and authentic. House is large with plenty of space, even for the kids to play. The guest offers games, beers (!!!!), and all that is needed for those trekking the kumano kodo. Even a super massage chair! Truly recommended

Truly a wonderful surprise. We decided to stay here as it was reasonably near to Koyasan (about 40-50 mins drive from Okunoin) while being much more affordable than lodgings in the main Koyasan area. You can also drive to Osaka and Kansai airport from the hotel (1 hr plus). We opted for both dinner and breakfast as the hotel's location was remote. We were blown away by the food, which was extremely delicious. For dinner, we were served a sumptuous and exquisite kaiseki meal which included both traditional dishes (e.g. matsutake mushroom soup; matsutake mushroom rice; plum soba noodles; nabe hot pot) and innovative dishes (e.g. western-style cream of mushroom soup with cheese, served in a Japanese persimmon; tempura with 3 types of salt - matcha, plum, and another flavour I didn't catch). The ingredients were all of high quality and the fish dishes in particular were very fresh. We also really enjoyed the dessert (persimmon mochi and dango). The plating of the dishes was beautiful. The breakfast was also excellent. We especially enjoyed the boiled tofu with sauce, and the half-boiled egg which was cooked to perfection. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful, particularly the gentleman who helped us to check in and guided us on our room and the hotel's facilities, and the serving ladies at the dining hall who patiently explained how to cook and consume the various dishes. We managed to communicate with the assistance of Google Translate and a combination of basic English & Japanese. The room was clean and fairly large for the price. The beds were comfortable and the blankets were thick and fluffy. The electronics charging station beside the beds with multiple USB ports was particularly convenient. The hotel also has an onsen which we enjoyed. Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay at this hotel which offered a perfect ending to our holiday in Japan.

Highly recommend adding the owner’s breakfast here! From Jinlu to Hongu, there was basically nothing to eat along the way, so luckily we had the owner’s breakfast—otherwise we might have starved on the road. And it was seriously good curry rice, plus a café latte! Super satisfying 😊

This is my very first hotel review, and I wholeheartedly recommend this place!The hotel is exceptionally clean and tidy, with neat and comfortable rooms, offering a wonderful stay experience. The host is incredibly warm and thoughtful, who kindly prepared food and drinking water for our hiking trip in advance.The next day we hiked the Kumano Kodo Trail. There were absolutely no supply stops along the way, and it even rained heavily. Thanks to the snacks and water prepared by the host, we managed to finish the whole hike smoothly. It was such a huge help! I’m fully satisfied with everything here. I will definitely book this accommodation again when I come to hike Kumano Kodo next time!

What a beautiful house. We felt privileged to be able to stay there. Such a welcoming helpful host. The shower was excellent, just what we needed, and having the Coop literally across the street was so convenient. Everything we needed was provided, including a very welcome washing machine.

Top experience. The owner was very nice and helped us with everything. The place is amazing - really Japanese style, got a lot of amazing details, fully equipped kitchen, nice bathrooms. When you don't have the sleeping bag, is there and you can borrow one.

A perfect first night on the Kumano Kodo! The location was great and our host was super attentive - can’t complain!
