VERY well maintained property, gorgeous gardens, lovely pools, and the accommodations were spectacular. The food was delicious and lots of choice. The staff were all very friendly, helpful and accommodating.

Charitha organized two boat safari for me at very very short notice. Both were absolutely fantastic (apart from a fellow tourist who would not stop talking, unaware of needing to be quiet when viewing animals and the etiquette of how to behave on a Safari). The boat safari is breathtaking. I saw an elephant crossing from one island to another and a few small herds. Very magical! The guest house is in a very small village surrounded by jungle. Extremely peaceful and a fabulous place to stay the night. Charitha's family is adorable and so friendly and he will go out of his way to help you in any way he can. He organized a car to take me to Arugem Bay and even accompanied me. I did look at other options of where to stay but this was extremely close to the Boat Safari, only a 10 minute ride which he also organized and I'm thrilled that I picked this guest house. Incredible value for money and a highlight of my trip !

The house is located in a remote area near the Gal Oya National Park. It is peaceful and you can hear nature sounds when no vehicles are driving past the little road. That also means that there are a lot of animals around the area, and specifically insects, so you should be ok with that. The rooms are good for the basic needs. The owners are friendly and do their best to fulfill all of our requests as well as they can. They can arrange a car or boat safari for you, which is convenient, and we also went on a hike with the husband in a nearby mountain. They can provide all the meals according to your food preference which was nice for us because we are vegan. The food was tasty and the portions were way too large! They also provide tea and fresh juice from seasonal fruit.

I was here with my family for 2 nights and our entire stay was memorable. The owner/ manager was extremely friendly giving us insight on the places for us to visit around in Ampara. The food was exceptionally good and well prepared. The hot butter cuttlefish was a dish to die for. Rooms were spacious and comfortable. Looking forward to visit here again.

The location is wonderful. A very special place. Most of the guests only stay for a night or two. But we‘ve stayed for 5 nights and definitely recommend the same to everyone that is looking for true relaxation and fabulous service.

Gal Oya Lodge features air-conditioned rooms in Galgamuwa. Private parking is available on site at this recently renovated property.
