Providing free WiFi, Home Up Guest Apartments and Lodge offers rooms in Blantyre, 0.9 mi from Church. The property has a garden, as well as a shared lounge. Medic College is 1.4 mi from the property. Excellent place to come. The premises are very clean & quiet, with great security. Not far from the CBD. The manager Mr. Matandika and the rest of the workers, especially Mr Peter Kandulo are exceptionally friendly, and go an extra mile to make your stay comfortable. It is a very homely place. The apartment is exceptionally spacious compared to the many accommodations we have been to before in different countries. An excellent place for those who travel as family, with children. The shopping mall is not too far away. It is a self catering facility and you are provided with all utensils to use. Excellent value for Money. One of the major challenges in Blantyre is electricity, but this facility is integrated with the solar energy and you do not even notice that there is blackouts in Blantyre. The place is a home away from home. Clearly at heart, Mr Matandika has a passion to make guests feel comfortable. Keep it up Mr Matandika for the excellent job! Voted the best Host from our family, thank you!....

Traffic at times is crazy and parking downtown is bad but the area is growing and all growth has good and bad. Still exploring the city but I found a good steakhouse called 21... Will tell more next time. The airport is an easy in and out and the drive to the city is nice. You can get your visa in the airport so have USD or Euros handy. Single entry is approx. $100 USD, multi six month is $160 USD and multi 1 year is about $200 plus or minus a few USD. Enjoy! OBTW... drive around a bit. The city has some really nice neighborhoods.
The people are so friendly. I didn't have a great experience with banks though. Couldn't access cash, most Atms don't service international visa cards, or at least wouldn't service mine.
I lived in Blantyre for 6 months as was working there. It is a very small city in the centre. There is a daily market which sells fruit and veg which is great for all essentials. They also sell fabrics and all sorts of electronics and niknaks. There are a lot of great restaurants in Blantyre but most are not cheap. From Blantyre there are lots of other places which are easily accessible by car or sometimes bus for day or short weekend trips. Lake Malawi is a 4hr drive away and Monkey Bay, Zomba plateau is about an hour and a half away, and Mulanje mountain only an hour. There is also Liwonde national park where you can go on safari and Majete reserve where it is possible to see lions. Malawi really is a beautiful place.
Blantyre is Malawi's business hub and centre and hence rather a staging point for tourists. There are certainly good restaurants (such as the Casa Mia) and accommodation but they tend to be a bit more expensive than South Africa perhaps reflecting the challenges of doing business here. This time I visited for a conference. Security wise I found the CBD safe for exploring on foot and got minimal hassle. The national airline has improved its act since I last visited and I would not hesitate to use it again. Unfortunately the airport itself is still rather tatty (compared to say, Harare) and in need of a major upgrade. One must remember to get advice on the possible need for anti - Malaria measures before visiting
Game Haven Lodge is a fantastic place to stay. Our room was big, clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. The food is excellent. And the staff are very friendly. We did several game drives with Steve who was happy to stop as long as we wanted so we could take lots of photos. The game walks are also very good. If you are interested in birds just ask for a birding guide when you reserve your game walk. I definitely recommend Game Haven Lodge.
The rooms were very pretty and big with a lounge area and kitchen. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help us with travelling arrangements. It has a pool to beat the Blantyre heat. Food was good. Breakfast is included and was amazing! Overall we had a great stay.
