I’ve been visiting Akumal for years. Very peaceful, pretty and low key. Snorkeling is great but now limited due to reef protection and guidelines. I love swimming with turtles but don’t like the huge “turtle crowds”. Great food available within walking distance which is good because taxis are very expensive.
The room, pools, restaurants, and bars were all terrific. It was a good overall value and every single interaction with the staff was uplifting. They are all cheerful and helpful. Photo is looking back at the rooms from the infinity pool, which has a swim up bar.
Go with the knowledge that you'll need to pay and pay again... every cenote, ruins, beaches has a fee and it's not possible to get there unless you charter a bus or take an expensive taxi. We rented a car but had the spare tire stolen (an additional expense as the insurance doesn't cover this) and found that beaches are restricted to the properties and access isn't possible unless you stay there. Akumal Bay is nice and it is possible to swim with the turtles but going on a charter seems necessary unless you go in the late afternoon.
This trip was top shelf. We love the fact of three different pools based on how quiet you wanted it to be. The bar/poolside service was really on point and I never had an empty drink. The food throughout the resort was very nice. The taste was well thought out and the presentation was carefully crafted for each plate and consistent through out each meal. The beach is comfortable and never felt crowded. There was an empty lounger here and there and we never waited for one, even on the front row. There are only just over 400 rooms at the resort, so you might have a little over 800 people there at capacity and when spread out through the resort, it is not at all crowded like some other resorts. The grounds are mesmerizing and the care taken to keep it looking so really shows. The staff takes pride in every task they do there. I will be going back and I will be referring people to this resort. Thank you for a wonderful week Secrets Akumal.
We liked Akumal a lot more than Tulum. Friendly town and saw a lot more families. Unfortunately due to high winds and waves, we were not able to go fishing and were advised not to snorkel for turtles but have heard good thinga about both activities.
If you wish to be transported to the paradise - this is the place - sandy beaches, sun, perfect weather, and the fauna and flora of the surrounding areas (wild animals running around are hilarious). Just divine. A perfect place for very much needed relaxation and rest, for couples, families but also for single people.
This beautiful property was the perfect place to spend a few days relaxing and communing with nature. It’s walkable to the beach and Akumal town, where there are a few little coffee shops/restaurants, etc. The yoga classes in the morning are lovely. The room was clean and comfortable. I ate dinner at the on-site restaurant every night during my stay, and the meals were delicious. Highly recommended; I’d definitely stay here again.
This resort surpassed any expectations I may have had. The white sand beach reminded me of St. John's. The service was exceptional. All staff spoke English as well as Spanish. The food was a culinary delight. The choices of alcoholic beverage were surprisingly high end. I usually do not expect this quality when I visit an all-inclusive but like I said before Secrets Akumal surpassed any expectations.
Amazing hostal in the pueblo of Akumal. The best thing is the pool on the rooftop and the delicious breakfast. Rooms have big lockers, enough space and comfortable beds. Bathrooms are always clean. About 15min walk to the beach make it a great place to stay. Some small restaurants and cafes are close by. Friendly staff and they have a diving school included which makes it easy to organize dives.
Akumal
Great location next to the beach. Easy access to Akumal beach (15-20 mins up the beach) and swimming with the giant sea turtles - you don't need to pay anything you can go straight into the sea and the turtles are there everyday - look for groups of snorkelers with bright orange life jackets. The breakfast (which you pay for) is worth the money over the continental option.
It is 3star resort for European standards. The food was good but it depend on the day (fish evening great, Mexican not so good). There is several nice pools in the hotel. Waiters at the bar took great care. In case there is some waiter who liked you, you get new drink whenever you pass by.
Located on the grounds or the Grand Bahia Principe/Akumal is a hidden jewel. Even due to covid, this please still shines. From the bedrooms, to our personal rooftop hot tub & private bar and everything in between, we only wish we could stay longer.
this was our third time to the property. the pool, beach access, and rooms are all excellent. Free secured parking. Staff are kind and helpful. This is a great hotel to spend you first and last nights if you are flying out of Cancun (and renting a car).
Nothing faulty! This villa is a pure gem, we really enjoyed our stay in Akumal, seen many turtles and enjoyed the beaches without any seaweed! Having two swimming pools is a MUST, we felt safe and the personal was attentive. Thanks!
Akumal
Very nice, roomy and comfortable condo. Pool was nice on location. We were able to go to the beach in the Bahia príncipe property
Excellent location, the hotel is beautiful and the staff is great. Lots of pools, huge beach, dry respectful of the sea life
Breakfast is only one location and be careful for what you pay it say online is all inclusive but is not :(
30 steps to the beach! Great restaurants near by and shopping. Off the resorts is this gem in Akumal!
the location to the beach, the gardens, the wildlife in the hotel grounds was an absolute highlight
