The main attraction are the islands.
The main attraction are the islands. In particular, cycling on the islands. Note that if you buy the ferry tickets to Terschelling from the Harlingen ferry terminal info (i.e. not online), you'll get a free voucher for renting a decent 7-speed bicycle for a day. There are three bike rental shops right next to the ferry terminal on Terschelling.

Harlingen is a wonderful town, picturesque and full of...
Harlingen is a wonderful town, picturesque and full of charming houses, canals and historic places. The people were helpful, friendly and easy going. Surprisingly, the town caters for mostly Dutch tourists, so it was often a challenge to understand the history as there were no signs or explanations in English. The local museum is in Dutch only. But with German and English we were able to get by.
The islands across from Harlingen are well worth a visit, the beaches are spectacular, almost deserted and clean. The bird wildlife is plentiful.

A picturesque small town with many photo opportunities and good food.
Easy to get around the town on foot.
Beautiful harbour.
Ferry service to/from island of Texel.
We are retired so cannot comment on suitability for young couples.

A lovely town, with lots of history, interesting...
A lovely town, with lots of history, interesting architecture, and good transport connections. A busy harbour with frequent ferries to the islands, and trains to Leeuwarden, Groningen and beyond. Good bicycle rental shops, and easy access to the coast. The museum is really intersting and gives a good sense of the city's history, and the old sailing ships in the harbour are beautiful.

A very pretty fishing village with many 'typically Dutch' touches: local shops, gabled houses, scrupulously clean, good coffee, friendly people and many bars, restaurants, coffee shops and "coffee shops".
Lovely place to spend a few days.

Pleasant and friendly small town with beautiful harbour and plenty of restaurants, cafes, bakeries and shops to visit.
People are generally very friendly and walking around the harbour or down the main shopping street is pleasant.

Easy check in. Good parking. Left the car there for 4 nights we were there. Easy walk into Harlingen to catch ferries to Vlieland and Terschelling. Very relaxing and had everything we needed.
