A cottage with character! We stayed in two-storey cottage with bathroom in each room. A nice room with a view. You can see the boats, ships because it is located right at the port. There are some restaurants nearby to have lunch or dinner. And free parking!

Only stayed one night to catch 6am ferry next morning to Bodo. Ferry right outside hotel, so super convenient. Bag breakfast was made to go. Beds super comfortable, bathroom clean, although sink was draining slow (notified staff). Furnishings were nice except for the two upholstered end tables by the bed. They were grossly worn, looked dirty. and should be tossed immediately. Definitely lowered the "nice" factor of the room.

The location was great: in a quiet corner by the water and very close to the heart of the town. The room was small but comfortable. The hotel has a small gym.

Svolvær is ok itself, has many nice places, perfect coffee at Laura's coffee, bet the Lofoten islands have their most beautiful places away from Svolvær, so it would be more convenient to book housing further on the way.

A picturesque town, everything within a walkable distance.
A picturesque town, everything within a walkable distance. We especially enjoyed the hike to the Devils Gate, a long climb up many Sherpa steps rewarded with a stunning view and rock formation at the top.

Nice and beautiful city with beautiful surroundings.
Nice and beautiful city with beautiful surroundings. I spent few days there before going to explore other ones in Lofoten but it's a perfect place just to walk. There is a big square in the center, few restaurants with delicious local food, some souvenir shops and few big supermarkets. There are also few hiking routes with amazing views from top - definirely a place worth visiting.

A suitable length of stay would depend largely on the time of year.
There are many options for mountain walking in summer, less when snow covers the paths and countryside. Day Trips can be made to explore other scenic towns and villages by the local bus, along the island. Very scenic opportunities for photography with the changes in weather. Interesting short walks around Svolvaer and the harbour, boats, colourful buildings and rocky inlets scenery.

Svolvaer has the iconic architecture and "feel" of the Lofoten Islands but is large enough to have some choice in restaurants and easy access to most services. There are many museums and attractions nearby and just driving through the countryside yields spectacular views. Parking in town is limited and expensive, but the central parking lot is free after 7 PM.

Fantastic holiday in Svolvaer.
Fantastic holiday in Svolvaer. A photographers paradise from Fjord excursions to a road trip further a field.
My key highlights were the RIB Sea Eagles tour with Lofoten Explorers and the 5hr road trip with Lofoten Lights tour operators.
I will definitely be returning to see the Northern lights.
Very great hotel!! Everything is very clean. The staff was very very friendly and help you with everything you need. They message you via message and whatever you want, they assist you with. The beds were very comfortable. The room amazing view to the lake. The location of the hotel is great, very close by to everything you need. You can book the trip directly with the hotel for a very cheap price. And the breakfast buffet was amazing, so so tasty.
This review is for Thon Lofoten, as Thon Svolvaer changed our booking a month or so before we travelled.
The hotel is great, good central location, ask for a room with a sea view. The breakfast was amazing - we stayed in several different hotels during this trip and the breakfast at Thon Lofoten was definitely the best. So much choice and excellent quality - people were even taking videos of the different breakfast stations!
Outstanding breakfast complete with piano player. Like really outstanding. Probably would not find a better breakfast anywhere. Close to ferry and bus and Hurtigruten for those who need that. Staff are very nice and accommodating. Very clean. Really good bathroom. Big hotel so very flexible even on booking.com with cancellation.
great location, clean and comfortable rooms, space to sit and enjoy the view, electric car charging outside, good breakfast… the list could go on. This hotel exceeded our expectations and started our trip to lofoten on a high!
The first room was too small and uncomfortable bathroom but the hotel was very Nice and gave us a big room. Friendly staff and clean :). Pet friendly hotel . Recommend if you like to stay in the city of Svolvær Lofoten.
