Motorcycle Mecca & Transport world a must see!! Nice clean town with great roads, no traffic, no graffiti, or boy racers for that matter. Really enjoyed our stay there and will venture back for sure. The cafe in motorcycle Mecca is the bomb!
Invercargill is a town not a lot of tourists go to. It’s really an interesting place with a lot to see in the area. The Catlins, Bluff, the Queens Garden, downtown. There is even an airport! I’m really glad we made it part of our trip.
I stayed at the Victoria Railway station. The food at the restaurant was absolutely delicious. I spent one evening with the inn keepers and a few guests at the bar watching a rugby match. It was so much fun! I felt like I had been invited to someone's home. What wonderful people! I rented a bike from a nearby shop - the people there were also incredibly kind and pleasant. I rode for awhile to a bike path on a nice sunny day. Another day I went to a store where they displayed old cars and motorcyles - a museum within a store! I only wish I could have stayed in Invercargill long enough to take a day trip to Stewart Island, even so, I'm glad I chose to vacation at Invercargill.
Some fun places to visit, The stumpery is a new discovery for us at Queens Park, a fascinating and unique garden folly. The Batch cafe was a nice discovery with some yummy food on offer. Make sure you book if it’s a prime time like lunch time at the weekend. Zookeeper cafe still a fun place for a coffee too ☺️ The Tuataras are always worth a visit too, who can pass up the chance to see a dinosaur? If you have children there is a great playground at queens park and and other at Alexandra Park, also beautiful ❤️
Beautiful hot weather, lots of friendly people, its flat so wheelchair friendly, Queens Park is spectacular, and the museum next door has a great cafe and a Tuatarium (tuatara are reptiles that survived the dinosaur age and there is a Tuatara there who is over 100 years old). Not as pretentious as other cities - you can still get great offer there but there are also great old style tea rooms. There are amazing transport museums and it is where Burt Munro of the world fastest Indian is from and they still race every year on Oreti beach which nice and flat - I have ridden pillion on that beach myself and it is fantastic. Tim Shadbolt is a great progressive Mayor - and that's why there is a more diverse mix of people there, which is great. Great nightclubs and bars too - I recommend the Northern Tavern, Tillermans, but if you don't know, or are lost, just ask a stranger as most are friendly and are happy to help.
Transport World, Motorcycle Mecca and E Hayes and Sons are top of the list. Arrive and depart by air using the new airport. Flights to Stewart Island use the same airport. A Stroll through and a coffee in Queens Park is a must. Food and beverages at any of the ILT establishments will let you taste ample servings of the best Southland can offer. A triple trip to Doubtful Sound with Real Journeys will give you an absolutely unique world class experience in Fiordland. The flat terrain of the city and ample walkways will give bird watchers and those who like fresh air a real boost. Experience fresh air and temperate conditions free of insects and other humid loving beasties. If you prefer indoors, Splash Palace and the Stadium Sports Centre will meet your every need.

Homestead was very comfortable and friendly with plenty of parking. Restaurant across the street was handy and takeaways a little bit further along. Plenty to see and do in Invercargill, the truck and car museum are a must see. Loved the bike museum as well all of them well restored. It's not a trip south without a feed of oysters, available pretty much in every fish and chip shop and many restaurants. Loved visiting Invercargill again, great people and a great place.

While the décor is not as modern as some motels and the buildings are not recent the property is beautifully maintained and for the price there are more facilities available than many more modern offerings. I refer to lounge and full kitchen facilities which are separate from the bedrooms. You can cook yourself a full meal at The Golden Leaf Apartments. Many more pricey motels have only a microwave and an electric jug.

Super friendly staff receptionist Sherrie was an absolute honey!! She new me my father and my partner had driven from Christchurch all the way down late at night arriving @2am in the morning she left our room lights on with a key inside leaving it unlocked because we couldn’t make it to check in time which was 2pm that was never going to happen.
