Unfortunately there was a lot of roadworks & building disruptions but we would like to come back. The weather was very windy & wet apparently the worst for some time so just unlucky. Great breakfasts at The Auction House & The Batch Cafe scrumptious. Dinner at Ziffs was so awesome & the courtesy van picked us up & dropped us home AMAZING food & service, outstanding.
The drive out to Gemstone Beach was a highlight because it was such a beautiful day and the stones were so beautiful and varied. We also did the must do "Sterling Point" photo opportunity and the "Seriously Good Chocolate Company" visit. Would have liked to visit Oreti Beach but ran out of time. The collection of motorbikes on display at the E Hayes store were amazing. Riverton is a quaint wee seaside village well worth a visit too. H & J Smith department store is worth a look if you're into shopping - they have so many labels under the one roof that I haven't seen like that anywhere else.
The best Motorbike and Transport museums in NZ and other places we have seen in the world. Great cheese rolls and Bluff oysters. This was the reason for our visit. Just avoid the Bavarian Motel. We have travelled the world and most of NZ.
I am from Invercargill so biased. It is a hidden gem. The beaches/parks are gorgeous. Currently the whole of the inner city is undergoing construction so do not expect much in the way of shopping/cafes but there are some nice options in the suburbs. That being said Auction House in the city is one of my all time favourite cafes ever. The menu and cabinet options are endless. My daughter who was born in Auckland and raised in bigger cities but really digs Invercargill. Just the flight in over the town/park/sea is an adventure. You feel like you can reach out and touch the houses. Queens park is the most beautiful park in NZ. Good boutique shopping but pricey.
I wasn’t too impressed. Oreti beach was my highlight. We had a drive out to Bluff which is only half an hour away. We were there just as COVID is exploding all over NZ so wasn’t in the best headspace to enjoy the trip. I will probably come back and try Invercargill another time.
So many hidden gems in this city. A must see is the tuatara exhibit, hidden behind tge closed Southland museum. Follow the tiny signs and arrows to back of building and see nz largest viewable group of tuatara, including Henry who is 122 years old. Amazing. Visit Hayes Hardware to see the original worlds fastest indian plus shop their wonderful hardware store. The Emporium downtown for his collection of antiques and collectibles taking up multiple floors. For ladies, the shoe store, The Perfect Pair has great brands at realistic prices for high quality shoes. Industry Cafe for Friday's decadent donuts. A wonderful visit.
Invercargill
The room had a real homely feel, like being at a friends house. Very tidy and extremely clean, with all the small yet important creature comforts. Nice, functional kitchen (even though I didn’t use it), cozy bedroom and nice sized bathroom. And most importantly, the front office lady who checked me in was so lovely. This property is leaps and bounds ahead of any chain hotel/motels you’ll find in Invercargill.
Invercargill
Great location as it is in central Invercargill and on the main bus route. A few blocks walk and you have access to lots of shops, restaurants and services. Room was fairly spacious, and though a little warm during the day (faced west) the mattress/pillows were comfortable and the water pressure/temperature in the shower (ensuite) were great.
Invercargill
It was the perfect home away from home! With a market walking distance it gave more options for eating. The room was lovely and the hosts were the perfect hosts. Quick to respond to any inquiries as well as accommodating when I asked about checking in early. I look forward to staying there on my next trip to Invercargill!
Invercargill
Pretty good staff was welcoming and accommodating with breakfast and towels and parking space... it felt like staying in a low budget AirBnB - in a good way :) It would be much better if the rooms were deep cleaned at least once a month and bathroom were deep cleaned once a week - at the very least once a forthnight.
Great location in the heart of Invercargill. The room is nice and spacious clean and well air conditioned. The hotel has a restaurant on the first floor with great food. Parking was available across the road in a secure car park. Staff were exceptionally nice and friendly and added to the experience.
