SingaporeLove this place so much. One of the best accommodations in the south we have stayed so far. The place was clean, kitchen with pots n pans, there is an oven n microwave too. Love everything about the house. A fridge, not the mini kind. Adorable laundry room. Everything is simple and clean.

An often under-rated city, Invercargill has wonderful parks and old heritage buildings.
When Te Unua Museum of Southland (teunua.nz) opens in 2027, Invercargill will definitely be worth a special visit even from afar. Te Unua replaces the the Southland Museum and Art Gallery, which was closed as an earthquake risk in 2018. It's been a long wait!

We loved the shopping, the Langlands Mall is a good start,...
We loved the shopping, the Langlands Mall is a good start, being able to walk around easily to QueensPark , the Civic Theatre, E Hayes & sons , The streets are so wide and little traffic means it’s easy to get around to go to the Richardson’s Museum ( well worth a visit ) , or Splash Palace for a swim. Plenty of cafes and restaurants to try eg The Batch or The Auction House which we loved .
There is definitely plenty to do .

Invercargill is a lovely city down South.
Invercargill is a lovely city down South. A great starting point or base to stay at when visiting and exploring the South Island. Lots of accommodation options, great places to eat at. And a 2 hour travel from Invercargill you can find yourself in the beautiful Catlins, picturesque Te Anau, Queenstown or the inviting Central Otago towns like Cromwell and Alexandra. Lots of events are on in Invercargill all year round.

Invercargill is nothing more than a "have to" destination.
Invercargill is nothing more than a "have to" destination.
The weather is rainy ...all year ..overcast and rain daily.
winter has a sharp cold wind that goes right to the bone.
Invercargill is generally visited for family events, funerals or business. it's definitely not a destination for anything else.

We went for the vehicle themed museums.
Arrived Friday am and straight to Hayes - a hardware store but has displays of machinery, motor bikes and of course Burt Munroe's streamlined Indian world speed record holder.
Saturday, we had breakfast at Motorcycle Meccas cafe (very nice) and spent several hours looking at the 300+ motorbikes - mostly classic and historic (1900's on) in a great old building (haberdashery I think) with a functioning old-fashioned lift. Then onto the Transport Museum just down the road - lunch in their cafe, then displays of classic and vintage trucks and cars (note you can get a discount buying entry to both of these places). Dinner at the Irish Pub (fantastic staff) and airport for home Sunday am.

I love Invercargill, the wide main street going in.
I love Invercargill, the wide main street going in. The botanical gardens are fantastic and some really neat cafes and the best art shop!
The Bill Richardson museum is epic, well worth spending time there. Oreti beach is fabulous for walking or running on.

Was a great rural location just a short drive out of Invercargill. The gardens and wildlife surrounding the house were lovely to be greated with every morning. Would happily stay here again.
