Could tell the hosts are really thoughtful, our eyes lit up to see the heaters going on arrival and the house nice and toasty warm. Despite the booking saying linen and towels weren't included it was really appreciated to find them there.

Nice shops, restaurants, nice scenic walks all around town/...

Nice shops, restaurants, nice scenic walks all around town/streams etc, wicked views of Ruapehu on clear days, excellent hassle free ski/board hire outlet shops. Good amount of affordable lodge accommodation.Although a longer trip up to ski field than whakapapa, I really enjoy the scenic trip up, and road not as intimidating or steep on those icy mornings in a front wheel drive car. Nothing I don't like about Ohakune 🙂

    The gateway to ski mountain.

The gateway to ski mountain. The town has all the necessities including ski hires, groceries and cafes / restaurants. The staff at i-site was very helpful and knowledgeable. It would be good if the town has a scenic flight service rather than in Taupo which is not in my list of places to visit.

We have been to Ohakune twice during winter.

We have been to Ohakune twice during winter. Once straight out of lockdown and again 3 years later. There are one or two establishments that are lovely but we found on both occasion that everyone else are some of the rudest people I have ever come across in my life. Especially straight out of lockdown, support local. When we ask for recommendations or ask for help with anything we are looked at like we just asked them for the moon. Asked for a tomato to be removed from a burger and got told you will get it how you get it. That was the running service from most places both times we have been there. Only one hotel and a ski hire shop were the exceptions - they were super friendly and helpful but everywhere else are so rude like we are an inconvenience and treated us all like crap. I would never ever go back to Ohakune or advise people to go there.

The real surprise was the carrot park.

The real surprise was the carrot park. We almost missed it, but our accomodation hosts recommended it, so we went back. Take the walk from behind the tourist information centre, not the main road. This walk through native bushland is an attraction in its own right, but what a pleasant destination. Well done by the community.

Ohakune is a wee gem of a town.

Ohakune is a wee gem of a town. All who stayed were adults, but we all enjoyed the carrot park, there’s even an outdoor gym there! It’s just awesome. The towns people were really friendly, and there were plenty of places to have a few drinks and lovely meals. I absolutely loved Ohakune, I do love small towns. I think it would be a great town to visit in Summer as well as winter.

5 adults visiting for a wedding, made very welcome by the lovely, friendly community. We stopped for a quick pic with the carrot and and discovered the playground. WOW! It is really impressive. Utopia Cafe for brunch was another great decision.

It’s a flop and drop chill out pad. In a quiet, secluded location ( you can hear the goods train in the morning). The chalet is ideally placed for adventure and exploring. It is cosy and comfortable if you need to take a break from motels/hotels. It has all amenities ( no ironing board, if that’s a must) We loved the location and the property was nostalgic for us as we have owned and cherished such pads in our own family. It feels like a friends and family accommodation.

Honestly it was incredible... ohakune had a lot to offer but coming home to this bach everyday was a highlight for my tribe. We all had great sleeps, great eats and awesome water pressure. The games and tech available ensured everyone was able to wind down at the end of the day. The outdoor space was used every night, perfect view with all the green around us and gorgeous sunsets.

Price and location. Steps away was the path alongside the river and leading to the award winning carrot park. Next to several choices of resturants-recommend Osteria resturant. Amazed at the tiny space that comfortably accommodates all that entails a hotel room....very very clean as well. Comfortable and clean bed.

idyllic location. it’s a bit outside Ohakune. since we were driving around and had bought dinner prior to arriving at the location, the location didn’t matter much . on the other hand, the idyllic spot can be a romantic spot for couples . since I was traveling with a friend, it was me and and my hand for the night.
