The Powderhorn Chateau is located in Ohakune, at the entrance to Tongariro National Park. Beautiful looking room and comfortable bed. Very close to train station. Great staff! And great fireplace around the bar. The hotel was happy to accommodate my request for a late checkout, as I had to wait for my train and it was way too rainy and cold to go for a walk. I was VERY grateful to be able to stay in a nice warm room for a bit longer.

We loved Ohakune! Out of the ski season there's so much to do and see. Ohakune's an excellent base with a few but not too many places to eat and drink in the evening.. Our teenage son was easily fed! If you like outdoor adventures its a great base, with the brand new (and fabulous) Skywaka only 45 mins drive away; so its an easy daytrip with restaurants and cafes. We enjoyed the old coach roads an excellent mountain bike track. If its a rainy day there's the climbing wall, but we had stunning weather and there was so much to see and do in the area. I'd highly recommend sunset and star gazing on Ruapehu or just a visit to the ski field in the day for the views alone. We're looking forward to going back there.
The Kings Lodge was about 40mins by shuttle from Tongariro crossing. It cost $50pp for a return shuttle which is organised by the lodge reception. It came on time and was there to pock us up promptly after we had finished. Kings Ohakune was a lovely stay as it had a spa to a oak in after the long hard walk and great food at their restaurant to dine in!
Beautiful little town, close to fabulous forest and clear streams - with swimming holes. And the mountain. Geared to making as much $$$ as possible from poor unsuspecting tourists. We were originally overcharged for the shuttle by the ISite but this was eventually remedied. We bought a pizza for $22.90 from the pub. This pizza turned out to be the size of a small dinner plate - but it was delicious. Accommodation is way overpriced. Ohakune please realise we are not all rich Aucklanders and look after your visitors better than this.
love Ohakune. Mainly go for the skiing in winter, but there are plenty of other things to do besides ski. Some of the restaurants are of a very good standard so good food is easy to find. So much is within walking distance so it is easy to get around.
Such a range of options for people to explore - walkways short and long, biking, mountain tracks, food places - from food trucks to restaurants. Easy parking around the village - one pinch point turning from Goldfinch St onto the main road in/out of Ohakune.
House was warm, dry, great furnishings and linen, spa was clean and kitchen had everything we needed. Bonus was the drying room for wet snow gear. Really nice outlook over a field and plenty of room for our family of 6. The hosts agent was excellent and responded well especially when it looked like we could have been snowed in from a massive storm. It's close to mountain access and only few minutes from shops and restaurants.

Walking distance to the shops, restaurants and cafes. The staff who welcomed us was pleasant, informative and accommodating she even showed us our room and the facilities of the property. The interior of room was surprisingly modern. Very clean and tidy. The room that we stayed had a beautiful view of Mt. Ruapehu. Private spa pool. 🙌🏼 Definitely going to stay here again in the future when we visit Ohakune.

We thought this motel was very good value for money. The unit was spotless the staff were very friendly and check-in/check-out was a breeze. Electric blankets on the bed & heater in the room kept us toasty and warm. There was a DVD player in the room plus a large DVD library to choose from in reception. Quiet location approx. 10 minutes walk into Ohakune township. Thanks Luke (-:

The room was spacious for a small family of 4 and beds were clean and very warm and comfortable, had a great sleep 💤. Showers were piping hot which makes up for the bad pressure. The restaurant/bar is great, awesome 👌 huge meals great after a day on the mountain ⛰. It has a real family feel about it. Great staff, super friendly and plenty of beer on tap, definitely stay there again
Ohakune
The space! The rooms were well appointed with heaters and electric blankets. The living area had a heat pump which made it cozy and warm! Sky TV was a great plus as was the deck outside...overall a warm and comfortable stay in a safe and clean premise...super central and walking distance to all the restaurants and the 'famous Ohakune carrot'...
Ohakune
Price and location. Steps away was the path alongside the river and leading to the award winning carrot park. Next to several choices of resturants-recommend Osteria resturant. Amazed at the tiny space that comfortably accommodates all that entails a hotel room....very very clean as well. Comfortable and clean bed.

This is such a nice place to stay. We particularly loved - Sitting in the jacuzzi watching the sun set over mount Ruapehu after. a day on the slopes; And the High end luxury ‘touches’ that were provided. This is one of my favorite retreats in Ohakune.
Ohakune
Nothing fancy it's just what you need if you are just there to 💤 sleep. It's rated as a 2 star hotel but I've stayed in worse higher rated hotels. The owner was nice ☺️. It wasn't far from my 3 day event in Raetihi 😁
