I was mostly in between nature. As long as it's kept like this and the aesthetic of the place is maintained ... all is great! :) Fortunately, because of this, I didn't see many modern houses, which was great!!! :))
Absolutely fantastic place, everything is gorgeous, it’s so relaxing and watching the animals on the balcony with my breakfast was amazing. We were so lucky to have found this little gem. Tony was an amazing host, so friendly, informative and helpful. He really made our stay perfect. We can’t wait to come back. Really couldn’t recommend enough. Thank you ☺️ Oh and I forgot to add just how wonderful it was to eat fresh warm bread that was delivered to our penthouse for breakfast. We wished we had booked more nights here.
Once the gate opens, visitors are treated to the surprise of a gorgeous home in a beautiful setting. It is obvious that the owners take pride in the place and enjoy offering it to others. We were looking for a quaint stone cottage in a little village. This one fit the bill! And the peaceful garden area was an extra treat!
Arouca is only small but the surrounding Geopark is very beautiful and offers visitors an activity packed couple of days. Curently Europe´s highest suspension bridge is being built in the park. Was a great family holiday.
Awesome mountains, the passadiços do Paiva, a structure built in 2015 in the mountains along Rio Paiva, between Areinho and Espiunca, provide a different perspective of the impressive valley landscape and it’s an accessible activity to all ages. It has an interesting historical and geological footprint that we were unable to properly explore due to time constraints. Above all, it is the perfect spot for adventurous souls, with many year round outdoor activities and extreme sports. Besides the typical hiking in the mountains that provide astonishing views, in Espiunca and other spots in the Geopark, you’ll be able to go either rafting, canoeing or kayaking in white waters, with rapids that vary from grade II-V, in Rio Paiva, from Oct-Apr. Kayak lovers might get impressed with the quality of the rapids. In the summer (May-Oct) there’s canyoning, rappel and many other sports that will allow you to make the most of your trip and get a different nature perspective. I did rafting with Clube do Paiva, and strongly recommend it. I intend to return for some Canyoning. Last but not least, the food is unbelievable. As it’s in the north of Portugal, the portions are hugeee, and the traditional vitela -beef- raised in the mountains, is to die for, with great restaurants around the mountainous area. Well worth a visit!
If you are visiting arouca and love nature, walking, and geology you are in heaven , you are in "Arouca GeoPark" (look at the website) ! Make sure you visit "Casa das Pedras Parideiras" and "centro de interpretacao geologica de canelas" where you can learn and see real fossils! As for nature the "passadiços do paiva" is a priority, it's a 8km wood walk in the Paiva river shores. There are also a lot of trails and if you are visiting in the spring you can go down the paiva river in rafting. Be sure you don't miss the tasty local food (Posta Arouquesa)

Well situated right at the city centre in a calm neighbourhood. You have the tourist information just across the street and the flat was spacious enough for 3 couples or families.
