It’s a great town for a gateway with your couple, to relax or work in a calmly environment, surrounded by nature, weather is good, food is good and not too expensive but you should definitely have your own wheels because transportation is a little bit complicated in holidays
A town with an ancient history, somewhat overshadowed by newer developments and apartment blocks, but worth visiting the old centre and the castle (free entry) and the pleasant park around the foot of the castle. Be ready to park the car and walk about as the centre and the castle are a bit difficult to access by car.
A good centre to explore the surrounding sites of natural beauty and of great historical interest. Handy for the motorway system and national roads in the centre of Portugal. Pleasant town but unpretentious, with all the major supermarkets etc accessible to the south of the town.
We loved being in the heart of beautiful countryside. It was central to going to places and sightseeing. It's a easy 3 hour run to farO airport and one hour from lisbon. 2 hours to Porto. Fanatic caves to see.& beautiful old castles.
Quiet and secluded after Lisbon. Short drive to many of the sites that are sold as day trips from Lisbon and many you have not read about in Travel books. A castle across the river, roman ruins, dinosaur footprints in a old quarry with beautiful views of the river valley, Tomar castle and black pig farms. Many do not speak english. A car is required.
Quite a small place with friendly people always willing to help. There was a festival on whilst I was there and it was nice to see everybody having a good time with music, food and drink. Safe, clean and very pleasant.
