I loved it; it's a small town with beautiful scenery, a lot of history, super peaceful and lovely for walking. I loved the castle and its associated history. You can go see the deer, walk along the beach, and enjoy the tranquility of the place.

A historically important and interesting castle.

A historically important and interesting castle. Worth a visit. The otherwise highly praised historic town center is very small and very disappointing. Nothing special, especially if you're familiar with other places in Sweden with old wooden houses. The hype surrounding the town is incomprehensible.

A beautiful place, nestled in a stunning waterfront setting.

A beautiful place, nestled in a stunning waterfront setting. Peaceful yet lively; the castle is a must-see. We highly recommend the food at Gripsholms Värdshus – absolutely delicious. The surrounding area also has much to offer, but unfortunately, we didn't have time to explore it.

We started by taking a steam train to Taxinge, it was a wonderful experience, we also visited Gripsholm Castle. Went to Restaurant Alba and ate one evening. Delicious! The second evening we had a delicious birthday dinner at Gripsholms värdshus. Everything was delicious. The meat was tender and nicely cooked.

Gripsholm Castle is a big attraction but the town itself...

Gripsholm Castle is a big attraction but the town itself with other things like the narrow gauge railway, lots of wooden houses and nice shops and restaurants is also nice. Surprisingly good parking facilities for such a small town. Lots of boats. Good opportunities for tourists but not plastic like it can be in places with a lot of visitors.

Mariefred is a beautiful and interesting gem well worth a visit. We were there in November so many of the tourist attractions were closed, but we were well aware of that. Not exactly a favorite place out of season, but nice to just wander around the center. We had dinner at Gripsholms värdshus and it was really good. Lunch at Alba was also good.

Breakfast was great. Room on the first floor not so great. We also had my father's funeral service at the hotel and they did not offer for me to have the room for a delayed check out or anything. I also explained that it was my father’s funeral that I am coming for and they did not put us together in nearby rooms although there were many of us staying at the hotel. I also had an infant bed in my room.

The location is great. A few minutes walk from the restaurants and the waterside. They have their own restaurant and they accommodated the little one's needs. Lovely and clean hotel. Spacious bathroom, good size bedroom with lots of storage space. Breakfast full of variety and fresh food. Friendly reception. Loved our stay. Thank you for your kindness.

Fantastic location at the heart of Mariefred. Excellent room and add-on bicycles to roam around Mariefred. A perfect cosy homely atmosphere for a relaxing weekend with family next to Gripsholm castle and the Järnvägsstation. Look forward to staying again here. Loved it very much. Thank you.

That’s beautiful village. The hotel is very close to castle and city centre. The rooms are small but comfortable. That’s enough to sleep. Very nice place.
