We enjoyed our stay very much. Great location, everything new and tastefully decorated. We had everything we needed, we didn’t want to cook, eating is super easy with many nice restaurants including one in the same building. The kitchenette is fine for making breakfast. The apartment has a surprisingly large terrace with patio furniture, which was covered in snow during our stay, but will be super nice in warmer months.

Very beautiful region. Great for big hikes from late spring until early autumn and for winter sport from late autumn up until early spring. Close to the lake there are a lot of hotels, restaurants and cafes. It is a perfect place to relax!
Great trails, both half-day or full day, from moderate to slightly challenging (especially for anyone with mobility issues). Skok waterfall trail is terrific. Jamske Pleso trail is flatter and less rough, but we did see a common viper on the trail and fresh bear poo! The trail around Strbske Pleso lake itself is very enjoyable and scenic. Furkotka restaurant (opposite Hotel Toliar) and Koliba Patria restaurant overlooking the lake we're terrific value and lovely food. Lary Fary cafe was a nice midday stop-off too, lovely hot chocolate and tea.
Strbske pleso itself is too touristy and developed. The real value of this location is all the hiking that's possible in the area. The nature here is stunning. An easy one hour hike will take you to another lake called Popradske pleso and a further 90 minute hike (a bit more difficult) from there will take you to the largest lake Velke Hincovo pleso. That area is beautiful. It looks like something from The Lord of the Rings. There is also a great restaurant in Strbske pleso called Furkotka with great food and service.
Beautiful area. Walking round the lake and going up in the chairlift to the bar on the mountain were highlights. Dinner at Al Lago Restaurant was superb and great value. After dinner drinks at Grand Hotel Kempinsky a delight.
Tourist town, people were kind of rude, very crowded, and a bit overpriced. I wanted to stop at the vendors to buy a souvenir for 10 minutes and to park for 10 minutes I was charged 4 euro. I think Slovakia would get more tourism if they practiced better customer service. Next time I will go to a different country in the region. I didn't think it was that pretty actually. The scenery yes, but not the trash uncleared roads, uncleared sidewalks and junky appearance of many businesses.
I have visited this place many times and it has definitely changed throughout the time. The people seem to be less friendly since there is a huge amount of tourism these days, there is a lack of good grocery stores in the area and everything is superb expensive for such a place. However, the nature and landscapes are gorgeous and if you go in winter and instead of skies you'd pack your hiking boots you'll be welcomed by amazing, untouched nature where you'd be hiking alone in complete silence.
