The Kata area was a great place to stay. Busy enough for there to be a vibe and energy about the place but not so busy that you couldn’t find somewhere to sit and eat and drink. I like Kata Beach.
I like Kata Beach. I live in New Zealand and come to Thailand to avoid the New Zealand winters. I first visited Kata Beach in 2001 and have recently started returning here regularly. I'm an old, long-time surfer. Kata beach doesn't have the greatest surf but that is compensated for by the beach life-style. I love Thai food so that's what I mostly eat and I generally try to eat where the locals eat (because the locals would know where the best food places are, right?). Most of the places that I go to are in easy walking distance but if I need to move further afield I can jump on the back of a motor bike, hire a motor bike myself or hire a car if I want to head out on a road trip.Paulynz - Scored 8.08.0

If you like a busy area with lots of local shops and massages and restaurants and busy beach with lounge chairs and people selling things to you, then Kata is great. It was not my perfect beach experience but we had just come from the north which is much more quiet, so this was just another part of Thailand. Its good to experience but not for everyone. The people are always nice and smiling and helpful!

Kata better suited to families than Karon beach or Patong in our opinion but is quite expensive like most of Phuket (compared to the rest of Thailand). Most restaurants have menus in Russian which may partly explain the pricing and are mainly jack of all trade tourist joints but the quality was pretty good nonetheless and we had good meals at Sugar and Spice and Kira Burgers when our kids fancied a change from Pad Thai. Overall am not a fan of the Western Coast of Phuket but Kata Beach is one of the nicer parts for sure.ChrisUnited Kingdom - Scored 1010
Kata beach was lovely.
Kata beach was lovely. Especially compared to some other places visited in Thailand e.g. Patong and Karon, it very nice and quiet yet enough to do in the surrounding areas with restaurants, bars and shopping. The vibe was good, chill and relaxing. The sand was nice, the water was shallow and warm, and you could book exciting water sports if you wanted e.g. parasailing. The views were also lovely, seeing the blue water, greenery, islands and the green mountains.DW1990Australia - Scored 2.02.0

We have been there several times last time 4 years ago. But I will not recommend anybody to go there - It's way to crowded by Russian people. Since we were there 3 years ago the number of people on the beach has doubled up by five.
