Prestigious City of Intellect and Culture
Lviv has so much cultural heritage that words hardly do it justice. It was under Polish, Habsburg and Soviet rule before rejoining Ukraine, and all have left dramatic marks. No fewer than 5 cathedrals grace cobbled streets with attractive parks and elegant buildings worthy of Vienna.
Potocki Palace is a grand former nobleman’s home and the Palace of Siemienski-Lewickis is equally impressive. Kornyakt Palace is a Renaissance jewel that became a royal residence, and the Ensemble of Ruska Street is an eclectic collection of buildings contributing to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed historic centre.
Lviv University is Ukraine’s oldest and was part of an intellectual circle attracting immigrants which earned the city the nickname of ‘Little Paris’. Shevchenka Avenue is named after Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko and a statue of him sits on a square housing the celebrated Lviv Theatre of Opera and Ballet and Lviv National Museum.
The town hall on Market Square is surrounded by colourful buildings housing shops and cafes, and the castle ruins overlook all of this from High Castle Park.

So many interesting, unique places to eat and drink. The service is very good and the places you vist are all very well decorated/ styled, whether it's traditional or modern. So many things in the town are accessible, there is even a large market that's worth a visit which is about 15min walk from the centre.

Lviv is an amazing city with a rich and relatively unknown (in the West, at least) history. I've loved getting to know its people and heritage and enjoying all the riches it has to offer travellers.

The old town of Lviv is very pretty!
The old town of Lviv is very pretty! Lots of shops, bars, cafés and restaurants, all of them more or less filled up with customers, but still not crowded. If you are aware of the curfew that starts at midnight all over Ukraine, Lviv is perfect for a (long) weekend stay!
When going back to Poland, in my experience the best is to take a taxi (or perhaps mini van, hasn't tried that yet) to the border and then just walk across. If you are an EU/Schengen citizen, there's a very short queue into Poland (on the left side of the 'all passports' queue. I heard some Germans being amazed that the border crossing by foot took only 7 minutes … But make sure you don't bring anything that's not allowed into Poland, 'cus they check the luggage very thoroughly. I had to do a penalty march back into Ukraine with all my stuff to get rid of snuff (snus). Maximum one single box of snuff was allowed. There's quite strict rules when it comes to amount of alcohol and cigarettes as well …
All in all, I recommend Lviv. For sure more pleasant than I expected!

This is a beautiful city and despite everything that is...
This is a beautiful city and despite everything that is going on at the moment in ukraine we had a wonderful time. The people we met were so friendly and welcoming and we visited some great little bars and restaurants (i would definitely recommend the traditional coffee and the cherry liqueurs). It is a great city where you can just walk around and soak up the atmosphere and the culture, I will definitely be going back again.

Lviv is a wonderful place to explore.
Lviv is a wonderful place to explore. The only issue is getting out of Ukraine back into Poland. The trains fill up so fast, so getting a seat is very hard. However, the biggest problem is getting back through the Polish border guard station at Przemyśl that takes many, many hours standing in the 36 degree heat in 2-4 hour long queues. One lady collapsed. It took us days to recover from that experience. The long delay almost caused us to miss the last train to Krakow and lose our booked accomodation.

Lviv is vibrant, colourful, cultural and highly recommended.
Lviv is vibrant, colourful, cultural and highly recommended. There is an ever present reminder of the war with sand-bags visible on many high value targets. But apart from the numerous amputees, the people dressed in army fatigues, you'd be hard pressed to know that there is a war going on. Mostly it's business as usual and people appear industrious and (possibly superficially) happy

The hotel has underground shelter which might be crucial for staying now in Ukraine.
Free breakfast is included. Water and coffee/tea is provided.
The hotel staff was kind.
A restaurant in the hotel works till very late and the kitchen in open till 3am. My personal recommendation is Ukrainian deruny (hashbrown).
There are two outside private areas to relax as well.

Without a doubt the best place I’ve stayed in Ukraine. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. The rooms came with everything (and more) of one would need. I’ll like to especially thank the amazing young lady at the reception with short blonde hair and glasses for the fantastic hospitality. 10/10 would stay again when I’m back in Lviv.
