Located in San Luis Valley in south central Colorado with access to U.S. First, front desk staff were extra pleasant and attentive. Second, the rooms are CLEAN. Housekeeping staff shows pride, and that gives me confidence that virus protocols are followed. Finally, there’s a hot breakfast, but rather than having self-serve pans of food with community utensils, the staff stands behind the food and serves its guests personally. This also gives confidence that this hotel takes keeping its guests safe is a high priority.

My family and I went to the Colorado Gators farm. It was a blast very family friendly, which is great since I have a 3-year-old and 10-year-old sons. Even my 20-year-old so had a lot of fun. It was my first time being to the farm, great staff and atmosphere. We ate at Chili's our first night there and the service was really fast and friendly staff. It's really easy getting around Alamosa. My older son lives, he's going to college at Adam State University. I would only avoid the motel we stayed at for our visit.
The town has grown quite a bit over the last tweny-five years. It still has the old charm of a small place. The sand dunes and Lu's Diner in Blanca are just a short drive from town. I enjoy Caviellos Mexican restaurant and the local pub on Main in Alamosa. Picnics are lovely in city park and plenty of tables to choose from too!
Our stay at The Dunes was an unexpected and extreme pleasure !! After an all day visit to a local National Park, we were ready for a good nights sleep. While driving to The Dunes, we ran ober a rock in the highway which caused a flat tire that shredded it to the point of having to be towed into The Dunes. The owner was SUPER KIND to syay, after hours,, to check us in, provide any needed assistance, etc. The next day, when we were notified our vehicle was ready for pick up, owner of The Dunes, volunteered to drive us to the garage to pick up our vehicle. We only wish we took the time to get his name. I can easily state that I would definitely stay at The Dunes if ever in the area !! We've never met a motel owner as kind and considerate,. He, in our opinion, went above and beyond being helpful. Not only a terrific owner/manager, but The Dunes was a excellent lodging experience.
Alamosa itself is a small and very poor town. Three of the restaurants we found on google were permanently closed. We try to go to the Monte Vista and Alamosa National Wildlife Refuges during the Sandhill Crane migrations, and the cranes never disappoint. One reason for choosing the Sunset Inn was to be on the road, 8 S, that leads directly west to the Monte Vista site. The cranes can be best seen in the morning, and we saw many of them even as late as 11 am!
Alamosa is a friendly town with many fine restaurants and activities nearby. I enjoyed visiting Treasure Alley, Firedworks Gallery, and NRG garden center. Alamosa has 'one-way' traffic down the main street which somewhat restricts travelers heading East from seeing the downtown
Alamosa is a good basecamp for exploring the surrounding area. For myself it was simply an overnight stop on my way home. I went to the San Luis Brewery for supper. They did not have any ribeye steaks or ribs. I waited 15 minutes for the beer I ordered, I gave up and left. They get a 0.
This room was just what I was looking for, as I as attending a workshop at the nearby Adams State University. It's within walking distance of both a supermarket and a drug store, as well as many restaurants. The room is clean and modern, with a microwave and small fridge. It was a little cheaper than comparable hotels in the area, probably because they only offer weekly room cleaning, but I don't need my sink cleaned every day.
Alamosa
Very clean and we had the essentials for rudimentary cooking. Generally quiet. It was nice to be able to walk to downtown stores and restaurants. Alamosa is a good compromise location for visiting both the Monte Vista wildlife refuge and the Great Sand Dunes Park.
Basic accommodations close to Great Sand Dunes National Park. In the heart of Alamosa. El Super Taco very close to hotel with a good selection to chose from and the free breakfast at the hotel restaurant was good and convenient.
I really loved the stay in this hotel. The location was great, the staff was friendly, nice and clean rooms, complimentary staff for the guest, free, free parking and amazing breakfast, especially in covid times!
Alamosa
The location was close to Alamosa city center and next to an IHOP. Check in was prompt and courteous by the front desk staff. One of the rooms had a full sized mini-kitchen with a bathtub!
Alamosa
Staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The breakfast was one of the best I’ve ever had at a motel and the pet friendly room was very clean. Would definitely recommend this motel.
Alamosa
Clean, silent. There's tea in the kitchen and you can take it even at the midnight. Some stores are not so far from the hotel.
This is a basic hotel that met all of our expectations. It was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was good.
Very clean, upscale, neat, and comfortable for an inn. Feels like a hotel.
Very modern facilities. Extremely clean. Close to shops in Alamosa.
Price was lowest in town, easy access to downtown Alamosa.
