If you go into Lynchburg and like trains, then eat at the Depot Grille. The historical museum on Court across the street from the LOVE sign is only opened on Friday and Saturday, even though the website says Friday through Sunday. My husband and I found out this information when we walked up to the door and saw a closed sign on Sunday. If you are visiting Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, go and visit the Carver-Price Museum because it is worth a visit, and it is free, as well. Stay at Longacre in Appomattox, as well.

Every thing about the Inn made our time there such a pleasant stay, especially the cleanliness of the property. The staff were so helpful and accommodating. . The breakfast was so much more than expected, and again the entire area was so clean and well maintained.

The small museum is filled with donated relics and photos that evoke a time of mass conflict. We were struck by the sheer scale of the war and struggled to imagine the thousands of soldiers camped on farmlands, hungry, bored, frightened and anxious. Appomattox was not the end of the fighting, though it is celebrated as the end of the war. Deaths continued into July. Just over a week after Grant and Lee signed the terms of surrender, Booth shot and killed Lincoln on the balcony of a theatre in the middle of a play. Over 800,000 lives were lost due to racism, hatred, and jealousy. How terrible.

Visit the Civil War Museum. Go to Point of Honor in Lynchburg. Go to County Line Flea Market, as well. Go to Putt-Putt Fun Center, as well. Eat at Depot Grille, Bootleggers, and Iceland's. Visit the visitor center and downtown, as well.

Appomattox is in the middle of Virginia.

Appomattox is in the middle of Virginia. It is a bit of a drive to get there but the scenic ride is worth the effort. The National Park is well designed and visiting there is a nice way to spend an afternoon. The history, as told by the park staff, is so illuminating. It is a small town so all you need is one full day to see the park and museums. The Babcock house is wonderfully comfortable place to stay and enjoy delicious breakfasts!

My main goal was to see the appamottx historical park and other civil war interests. Which I enjoyed on my short time there, hope to return Unless I missed something, historic downtown didn’t have much to see or shop, which I do understand in today’s world!

This is a beautiful bed and breakfast, hosted by the owners in the historic town of Appomattox. The house is lovely, a beautifully renovated home in the vernacular of the area in the 1800s. The food was excellent as one of the owners is an accomplished chef. This is definitely worth a stop!
