GermanyAbsolutely fabulous situated on the banks of the fishkill creek. Waterfall, high ceiling and spacious room. Extraordinary breakfast in the room, best bagels and muffins on the whole trip. Yoghurt out of this world. Quiet and wonderful. The free loop bus gets you right to the doorstep (well almost). Whole mainstreet is walkable (it is either a 15 min jog or 8 hour shop 😉).

United KingdomThis B&B is a peaceful oasis largely due to its hosts, Jim and Joe, who are delightful and friendly, and put themselves out for us to to feel welcome. Jim, as front of house, having not lost his strong Glasgow accent, shared an experience of childhood very close to my husband's and was up for some thoughtful philosophical discussions, leaning into the positive. He also supplied us with home made frittata and turnovers for breakfast with excellent coffee! The house is close to the small town of Beacon which is enough of a tourist venue to have a good range of classy eating options. We did not have our own transport and so we relied on taxis but Jim also gave us some lifts into town that were over and above and much appreciated.

The Dia Beacon contemporary art museum, Long Dock Park, and proximity to the Maggazino Italian Art Museum and the Manitoga Russel Wright house and studio make for a great weekend trip. Many of Beacon's restaurants are excellent.
Great views of the Hudson River and Hudson Valley, especially when leaves are turning.

Beacon was an incredible weekend getaway!
Beacon was an incredible weekend getaway! We spent much of our time hiking around the charming bed and breakfast, and the experience was nothing short of spectacular. Our hosts, Jim and Joe, recommended some truly unforgettable spots—a cliff with breathtaking views of the sunset over the mountains and Hudson River, a swimming hole reaching depths of 10 feet just behind the house, and delightful restaurants in town. They welcomed us with wine upon arrival and went out of their way to make us feel right at home. Staying at this bed and breakfast left me wanting to move to Beacon for good. Getting to know the hosts and hearing their life stories was a true highlight—I just wish we could have stayed longer!

Beacon is a larger, less visitor focused version of Cold Spring. It has about the same appeal and in my opinion better access to art venues than the few miles south trendy neighbor. The ratio of permanent residents to visitors is higher in Beacon than in Cold Spring which gives Beacon a feeling that it is a real town, not a tourist attraction or second home for people from the City (I’m not criticizing Cold Spring - my family lived there for the better part of a century). Proximity to the Newburgh-Beacon bridge is a benefit as you can easily visit Cornwall, New Windsor, and the fantastic Storm King Art Center. Beacon is real. Beacon is old and interesting, Beacon is delightfully low key. Beacon is updated 19th Century village, nestled in the Hudson River Valley.

The best was the extra spacious room.
The best was the extra spacious room. Hardwood floor, no sneezing! The TV could have been better if it had more movie choices. The bathroom was large but lacked a forceful shower. The cold temperatures were not suitable for outdoor walking. Otherwise, a great experience. Highly recommend the Roundhouse hotel with exceptional view of waterfall and Beacon mountain.
